    Re: Attenuators

I too have tried SR fuses. On two occasions. First the Blue fuses a few years ago, and earlier this year the Orange fuses. Gear was McIntosh C 1000 and MC 2301ís. No difference. Nada. Zip. Zero. Iím...

    Re: Attenuators

24 dB is ludicrous gain. Does Cary have a mod to drop it to a more reasonable 12 dB?
  3. Re: Amazon devices will soon automatically share your Internet with neighbors

Xfinity did this to us several years ago. The idea was you could get ĎWiFi anywhereí if there was an Xfinity customer within range. You had to opt out and it was a PITA. I was furious! No way...
  4. Re: New Cable offering - no audiophile should be without..............

    $71k will buy a lot of 12GA zip-cord.

    Re: Bit confused about Roon

    For those concerned about noise from PCís or endpoints to DACís via USB;
I have done experiments measuring USB nose from my laptop and RPi based endpoints. A USB isolator can produce a dramatic...

    Re: Bit confused about Roon

I have two houses and two complete Roon setups in each house.

One is the preferred setup where Roon Core is running on a dedicated small computer called a Nucleus (NUC). I have separate dedicated...
  7. Re: What do you hear different using Balanced XLR Cables?

This is incorrect. Several posts in this thread conflate balanced inputs and outputs with balanced internal amplifier circuitry.

Balanced inputs and outputs, when designed properly to AES48, have...

    Re: Beware of smart TVs

The last TV I bought was a Samsung somethingorother and extremely difficult to setup without ísmartí features. It took me 45 minutes to do it. Then WiFi was still active per my RF field strength...

    Re: Prince has Died

Hard to believe it has been five years. We were living about a mile south of Paisley Park when he died. The outpouring from fans was unbelievable.
  10. Re: Mythbusting tidalís mqa format - how does it measure up?

Sunlight is the best disinfectant. MQA is already a niche format on a streaming service that is no different than (some will say much worse than) at least two others, allowing people to vote with...
  11. Re: Shielded vs unshielded ethernet cable for Lumin

Stay away from all shielded Ethernet cables. Depending on how the cable is fabricated they can induce ground currents from your upstream components into streamers and DACs. Shielded Ethernet cables...

Re: MQA: That Sounds Good. To Me.

I think that the Video world has always been based on objective measures of performance, agreed to by experts and published as a standard. That includes the development of perceptual audio and video...

Rob - of course I have heard of (and listen to) DTS-HD MA and TrueHD.

Iím not sure I understand your point.

Re: MQA: That Sounds Good. To Me.

Great responses to my original post. Seems like there are a lot of good reasons why proprietary codecs are not a problem in the HT world. Also with DTS and DD there are two major players competing...

Re: MQA: That Sounds Good. To Me.

What I find interesting is that the HT world has had proprietary lossy codecs in DD and DTS seemingly forever. No conspiracy theories, no DD sounds bad, no DD ruins the dialog, no DD is watermarking....

    Re: Fuses in Lumins?

I would make sure you can get your money back if you find no difference or degradation in the sound quality after changing to a boutique fuse.
  18. Re: Just Found A Bunch of CDs... What an Odd Feeling

I think the thing to do with old CDís is the same as what you would do with a paper phone book, or other relics from a bygone era. :)

Re: Thoughts on Turntables and Vibration

Iíve got a high moving mass (22 kg) Nottingham Dais and can play plenty loud without issue. My table is not near any room boundaries and 6í away from the nearest speaker.
  20. Re: Synergistic Research Galileo SX Power cord. Sonic Opinions Please

ozzy - I would find a place that lets you audition the cable to see if it makes a positive difference in your system before you commit the cash. Happy hunting!

Re: Snake Oil or Contact Enhancer?

I think Iíll stick with contact enhancement products from Caig and CRC. It would be good sport to ask them for an MSDS, see what happens.
  22. Re: Vibration impact on cables - theoretical analysis

    a) impedance of the wire - at audio frequencies very low.
    b) true - balanced cables with electronics that have decent CMRR would eliminate this issue entirely. For unbalanced interconnects current...
  23. Vibration impact on cables - theoretical analysis

A conductor moving in a magnetic field will create a voltage proportional to the length of the conductor, the strength of the magnetic field, and the velocity the conductor is moving through the...
  24. Re: What will happen with the classic cars after the internal combustion engines are banned?

I think this is pretty accurate take on what's going to happen. Still no replacement for 100LL for the GA fleet, and it's widely available. Over time I see fewer stations and more limited...
  25. Re: The Lexus IS WAX Edition Is The Pinnacle Of Car Audio Snobbery
