  1. Re: What Music Server and Dac Will Out Perform My Turntable and Phono Preamp

    None!
Or you would deserve to be crucified! :D

I seldom skip tracks, but when I don't like an album, I won't lose my time on it, and move on to something else quickly.

    Re: Newbie streamer

The Hegel H390 DAC is really very good.
I'd add a good streamer, like Auralic Aries G1 or G2, Bryston or Lumin.
You could always upgrade your DAC later on if you'd like to.

Re: CD transport no dac required

    Hi Carlos,

    I'm fine, thank you.
I hope you're okay as well!

Just like the OP, my friend owns a Bryston BDA-3.
    This device has several HDMI-inputs.
The Oppo can send native DSD over HDMI to...

Re: CD transport no dac required

A friend of mine uses his Oppo 105.
    He's happy.
He had an Esteric K-03 before.

Via HDMI, you also get SACD that way.

Re: Music One Must Listen Before One Dies

    Fantastic choices!
    Love all of them.

  7. Re: At what dB level do you begin to have hearing damage?

You must have been in a glider! :D

I have tested this with my iPhone.
Close to the window: 87-88 dB up to 90 dB.
In the middle row: 85-86 dB.

On airplanes, I wear earplugs that lower the...

  9. Re: At what dB level do you begin to have hearing damage?

    This information is correct.

@Adyc: I don't know how old you are (younger people tend to underestimate the damage loud music can cause), but if 90 dB is your average listening level, you will soon...

Re: MBL 101 XTreme Reference Install

Mike, we're very happy with the Vivids.
Also knowing the man behind the speakers personally is a plus.
Dic stayed already twice at our house.

This being said, I would never say no to an MBL 101...

    Exactly.

    Re: Notice this with Tidal?

What you can observe with streaming services is that albums disappear after a while.
They are suddenly no longer available.
I see that more often with Tidal than with Qobuz.

We heard La Valse earlier this week, by the splendid Brussels Philharmonic.
It is a complex and fascinating work that honours and destroys the waltz at the same time.

    That's why I wrote 'arguably'.

I'm very interested in hearing about your top picks, if at all possible to say.

Of course it depends on one's mood and the day.
I love a lot of chamber music....
