    Re: Audio Memory

My audio memory is focused on repeating or bettering what has been the best reproduction from my playlist as I visit clients for RoomPlay sessions, and/or set-up for RoomPlay Reference sessions.

  2. Re: Isolation Feet for Avantgarde - IsoAcoustics Gaia or bFLY Talis Pro

    Anil,

Sometimes tilting them could be necessary if the listener's seat height seemed off a bit - typically too low in regard to the loudspeaker.

We always did this with the Symposium Ultra...

    Re: Speaker wire placement conundrums

It was a few years before A.J. Conti of Basis Audio passed in 2016 that I visited with him at a CES in Vegas.

He had one channel connected with a 6' run of his speaker cable, and the other with a...

    Re: Speaker Placement

Entirely too often, DSP is seen as a sidestep/short-cut/band-aid for acquiring proper acoustic wave-launch into the room and receiving it properly at the listening seat, and it simply is not.

    I...

    Re: Speaker Placement

There have been some interesting solutions offered.

IME, none of them will really unlock your music - in fact, some of them will keep it locked up for certain.

I'd say if you do anything...

IME, Rockports - without very careful set-up - can sound technically articulate, but musically boring...

    Re: Gillian Welch

I remember sending out a Quarter Notes newsletter in 2018, which had that album in it. I ended up with a couple of the tracks on my RoomPlay Reference playlist. I need to get the latest one.
  11. Re: Isolation Feet for Avantgarde - IsoAcoustics Gaia or bFLY Talis Pro

Symposium Svelte Plus shelves/platforms, directly beneath frame mounts - no cones - we won Best Sound at Show awards using this technique - at about 80% of shows we entered in the Avantgarde-USA...

    Re: E-mail address change

    Thanks!

It's a long not-so-pleasant story, but unfortunately (and a bit surprisingly) it was not the case in this instance.

Since some of it is rather unpleasant, I'll leave it alone, except...
  14. Re: New speakers: Magico M3 v Rockport Cygnus v YG Sonja 2.2 v Gryphon Pantheon

    Peter,

Once I become intimately involved in the RoomPlay set-up music - in the music from tracks that I have probably played well over a thousand times, I'm done.

    This happened more easily with...

    E-mail address change

    Re: 845, 211 and 300B power tubes

It's hard for me to pick a winner since most tubes are in amplifiers that were designed around them...

Still, the 845s in the Viva Auroras provide a highly-captivating musical experience, IMO.
  17. Re: New speakers: Magico M3 v Rockport Cygnus v YG Sonja 2.2 v Gryphon Pantheon

About two weeks ago, I voiced a client's system in N.C. that had the entry level Tidals.

    We achieved outstanding musical involvement.

If I had to pick a problem with these Tidals, I am...
  18. Re: New speakers: Magico M3 v Rockport Cygnus v YG Sonja 2.2 v Gryphon Pantheon

IME with voicing 3 of these models (no Gryphon yet) in systems to work best in the owners' rooms, without pointing out potential negatives, I have found the Magicos to consistently be more musically...

  20. Re: end game audio system -- how do you know you are there?

This reply isn't exactly what you are asking, but it works for most of my RoomPlay clients, and has for me for many years:

When I am voicing a client's system to their room, I am listening to...

Still a bit larger & heavier than I wanted, but it looks good - I have had a number of W4S products and have liked them all.

    Portable linear power supply

I have and use a Keces power supply in my RoomPlay Reference demo room, but it is simply too big & too heavy for me to add much more to the two already very large & very heavy (packed full) RoomPlay...

Re: Audio Research Has Been Sold

I think it was around 1972-73. I had a preamp that was highly thought of back then, the Crown IC-150.

Out of curiosity, and with some skepticism, I borrowed an ARC SP-3 which Gordon Holt & Harry...

    Re: New First Watt F8

The best amps I ever heard (most involving musically) with Avantgardes were Viva - all of them actually - but especially the Auroras with 845 tubes.

    IMO, IME.
