  1. JMF Audio PHS 7.3 Phono Stage Impressions

We just setup the JMF Audio PHS 7.3 phono stage in our reference system. I wasn't entirely sure how it might improve upon the sound quality, so I approached it with an open mind and zero...
  2. Re: Trying to play BD on my PC can be daunting.

There are also licensing costs for H.264 and H.265, and Dolby audio codecs. Plus content protection requirements that have to be satisfied. As an educated guess, it's easier to deal with that cost...

    Re: Soulution 330 integrated

I don't think that's necessarily the primary goal of many audio manufacturers, especially because that isn't necessarily the primary goal of many customers. I assume you picked Burmester because you...

    Re: Soulution 330 integrated

Well, DarTZeel is certainly designed with a very different sound signature as the goal. So if you strongly prefer DarTZeel, then I'm not surprised that Soulution didn't do it for you. :)

    Re: Soulution 330 integrated

I just got a chance to do some critical listening to the Soulution 330 and wanted to share my thoughts.

Puma Cat, I saw you asked if the 330 used LEEDH volume control. My understanding is that a...

    Re: New Soulution 7 Series

Since it looks like those Mono & Stereo links don't work anymore, I think these are the updated links:
    - Soulution Introduces New 7 Series Product Line
    - Soulution 757 Supports DS Audio Optical...

    Re: Bryston Power Components

The Bryston / Torus products are workhorses when it comes to power isolation and high-quality regulation, filtration, and protection. They're not really "fancy", so I think that's why there's less...

    Re: Handling Heavy Amps

Some other high quality amps that fall under your listed weights include the Soulution 311 stereo amplifier at ~35 lbs, and the Lumin AMP at ~42 lbs.

    Re: Handling Heavy Amps

If you want to make moving it around easier afterwards, you could always put it on something that has wheels on the bottom, like a wheeled rack or amplifier stand. But I would guess if you were...

Re: Benchmark ABH2 Mono Block Consideration

Yeah, Bryston and Benchmark sound different so you'd need to either know what change in sound quality you're looking for or compare them for yourself to decide if it is worth switching from the...
  11. Re: Some insight into the somatic response to live vs. recorded music.

This experiment was conducted in a controlled manner. The live music was played back in much the same way as the recorded music: through speakers to a single subject listener who was being observed....
  12. Re: Some insight into the somatic response to live vs. recorded music.

Well, the basis for the difference with live music is that the performer is paying attention to the audience and altering their performance in response. So I guess you'd have to have a feedback...

Re: New Magico S3 Install - Team Suncoast

We all work with what we've got. One of the nice things about Magico is that they're more flexible in terms of placement, and can work in a lot of smaller rooms and placed closer to walls than other...

Re: Most effective way to remove jitter

Yes, you need a UPnP music server, like MinimServer, to serve up the audio files and provide the more advanced functionality you've described. You can install MinimServer on a regular computer, or on...

Re: Most effective way to remove jitter

Theory does run into reality. But there are certainly companies and products that do an excellent job getting close.

With respect to an external clock, as I'm sure you're also aware, it matters...

Re: Most effective way to remove jitter

I guess if price (and existing products) are not a restriction, then theoretically you'd want a dedicated streamer with built-in DAC that uses a fiber (optical) network connection. Assuming the...

Re: Most effective way to remove jitter

Received jitter on the digital audio input pretty much only translates into timing errors of the analog output if the digital audio signal jitter (i.e. S/PDIF) carries through to the DAC chip's clock...

Re: Magico S3 (2023) Listening Impressions

In my opinion the new S3 speakers are better across the board compared to the S5 MkII, but I do think the S5 still provides a noticeably greater amount of bass output and extension.

  25. Re: LTA/Steve Guttenberg/Are there true bargains in the high end?

One of my clients is using a Linear Tube preamp in his Magico speaker setup. He picked it as his favorite after listening to several other tube options.
