I'm a fan from way back, but up to a point, probably Million Mile Reflections, although some good stuff after, like Still in Saigon. Fire On The Mountain is my favorite album.
  2. Re: Magico A1 - recommendation for integrated USB amp?

The 585 should do fine IMO. It has a nice DAC and sound, good amount of power. The amp section is based off the 532h, fast and clean. Stereophile has a review of 585 as well as others.
  3. Re: Magico A1 - recommendation for integrated USB amp?

You could try a Hegel 390, or if the price isn't right, go down a model. The Hegel sound will be more to neutral than the Mac though. Hegel's digital technology is typicaly cutting edge.

    I'm not...

    Re: Live versus Studio recordings

I like some live recordings that sound good, hence, Count Basie Live at the Sands, 1957. Why modern recordings aren't as good.......... That Allman Bros. mentioned is also very good. Live...

I heard Solution with S3's a couple times and thought it was great. Detail and response was good to me but may not have enough warmth for you. I didn't find anything fatiguing but it wasn't like...

Re: What's a component you just love

Might just be my impression but Ayon doesn't seem to be very well represented in the U.S. I try to stay informed yet don't know much about the brand. I guess that will give me something to research...

  18. Re: 2020 Stereo Floor-Standing Speakers To Consider For $7,500 To $15,000

Legacy is a good suggestion. They do have some powered versions as well. Interesting to see their Wavelet on either TAS or Stereophile 2019 recommended list in the digital category. A DAC as well...

Keep in mind all the devices drinking up that bandwidth in one household. Also, you may want to stream from your phone in an auto.

Of course, I doubt saving bandwidth was the motivation for MQA. ...

I can see why some companies are not on board with MQA, which of no reason stated really have to do with quality, more to do with fees and control.

    Re: Qobuz Family

Is MQA lossy? It is packaged to deliver, then unpackaged but it seems if a resolution is a certain spec, then it is that spec regardless. As example, if your DAC says it is receiving a 96 signal,...
  24. Re: 2020 Stereo Floor-Standing Speakers To Consider For $7,500 To $15,000

Sounds like you need an all round speaker that does most everything, I'd stick to a brand with good dynamics since movies/games.

You mentioned the Hugo that can be a digital preamp. However, you...
