    Re: Today’s Magico Install

The S3 MkII sounds better overall than the A5, and the M2 is twice the cost of the S3 MkII. It doesn't look like the seating is so far away that you'd need the higher maximum SPL output of the A5.

    Re: I'm Puzzled

FWIW, steel is a good electromagnetic shield, and it may have also provided some form of chassis ground depending on how it was used and how the rest of the chassis was constructed.

    Re: 8 items. 1 outlet.

A lot of times you should still plug amplifiers directly into the wall—the components in a smaller or lower-priced power unit won't be beefy enough for the draw of many amplifiers. But some units do...
  4. Re: Stuttering playback with 4TB external hard drive

I wasn't able to locate the USB power draw requirements for your WD Elements SE 4TB drive, which I saw only has a single USB connection, but you can find external USB hard drives that have separate...

    Re: 8 items. 1 outlet.

I always recommend voltage regulation because even with very clean and reliable power, there are voltage variations. We're in a relatively new home/neighborhood with reliable and clean power, but I...
  6. Re: Stuttering playback with 4TB external hard drive

I can't figure out what model of internal disk drive might be inside the 4TB Western Digital Elements SE, but as I mentioned earlier it shouldn't really be an issue. I guess the power draw like...
  7. Re: Stuttering playback with 4TB external hard drive

What is the model of the Western Digital 4TB external drive?

Different hard disks are certainly made differently, have different performance specifications, and may satisfy (or fail to satisfy)...

    Re: 8 items. 1 outlet.

For good value for the money, I recommend the APC H15. It has a few different "isolation" banks, 10 outlets, voltage regulation, and some surge protection and noise filtering. It also has rudimentary...
  9. Re: Any experience with Panasonic DP-UB9000 movie player?

We're using both the OPPO UDP-203 and the Panasonic DP-UB420 (our current projector does not support Dolby Vision). The UDP-203 for DVDs and Blu-rays, and the DP-UB420 for 4K Blu-ray.

    The UDP-203...

Re: Apple adapter same SQ as $1K DAC

Another thought is that not everyone hears differences in audio very easily. Sometimes it takes some learning, or someone pointing something out to you, before you know what to listen to and how to...
  11. Re: New TAS Sweepstakes: Hires Music Streaming System with KEF LS50 Wireless II speakers

The contest form is a temporary overlay?

When I accessed the website via my cellular connection on my phone, I get the same website with the pictures I showed above, but for a split second it...
  12. Re: New TAS Sweepstakes: Hires Music Streaming System with KEF LS50 Wireless II speakers

I'm still seeing the same website as yesterday at The Absolute Sound - High-performance Audio and Music Reviews.
  13. Re: New TAS Sweepstakes: Hires Music Streaming System with KEF LS50 Wireless II speakers

It's not obvious that the text "Join our weekly mailing" is actually the placeholder text of a form input field, instead of just informational text. That may be what's tripping you up, Dizzie.

    And...

Re: Searching for the hearing of my youth.

Lenire is a tinnitus treatment. They don't claim to cure it, but do claim to improve things. So far I haven't read anything absolutely rejecting their claims, although there is plenty of doubt.

Re: Anomaly between my Lumin U1Mini and my DAC

No, we don't carry Auralic. I have experience with them and recommend them as an option to some people depending what they're looking for.

Since pretty much all audio streamers are running Linux...

It isn't typical for audio electronics, or really any consumer electronics, to include in the general marketing and user documents detailed technical information about the hardware and software...

Re: Anomaly between my Lumin U1Mini and my DAC

skbe, a firmware update for your TA-ZH1ES was released back in 2017 that specifically:

Not sure how old your unit is but maybe this is related to your problem. There's an updater application...
  19. Re: imputing speaker impedance curve | volume level to generate 1-watt

@aKnyght I missed looking at the amplifier you are using.

The 20Hz - 20kHz (-6dB) measurement was most likely done with a resistive load, and is not indicative of what the frequency response would...
  20. Re: Magico M2 - Stereophile Loudspeaker of the Year 2020

I knew I read it somewhere, and I found it again in the Editors' Choice section now that Stereophile has posted the results on their website (bold added by me for emphasis):

    Re: Speakers esthetics

People's preferences and the amount of weight they apply to aesthetics versus functionality varies. Likewise, things change with the times, and with the technology and our understanding of what...
  22. Re: Introducing my product - Sleevenote, a new type of music player

Hello. I read about the Sleevenote earlier, and I believe you intended to link to the Indiegogo crowdfunding page: Sleevenote.

Personally, I would be curious as to how you would position...
  23. Re: Can you recommend complete amp+speaker setup for high-res music streaming w/Tidal Connect? (~10k)

Clipping in the encoded digital audio data or clipping/distortion in the reproducing electronics voltage output is different than using clipping or distortion to create a sound that is then...
  24. Re: Can you recommend complete amp+speaker setup for high-res music streaming w/Tidal Connect? (~10k)

Reading back my post, I can see how what I wrote might be interpreted to equate listening fatigue with either a warm sound or harmonic distortion. That wasn't my direct intent, although from my...
  25. Re: Can you recommend complete amp+speaker setup for high-res music streaming w/Tidal Connect? (~10k)

@metalgod01 The people I know that like heavy metal or metal in general tend to prefer being able to hear everything clearly and with detail, across the frequency spectrum but I think mid-range and...
