  1. Re: Has Jim Smith discovered a magic formula for placing speakers correctly?

#1 is questionable; either Wilson's or Jim's method should probably be used instead (FWIW my speakers are 58" from the front wall; 64" - where I started - is/was definitely too far out into my 23'...

    Re: Back it up!

NTFS allows a better chance for recovering corrupted data as well as (potentially) faster transfer speeds. exFAT has the best cross-platform support.

Re: Does your System sound better when it snows?

Outdoors is certainly quieter when and after it snows. My indoors is pretty quiet anytime (good windows, doors and other isolation/insulation), and in my listening room the HVAC ducts are muffled...
  4. Re: Has Jim Smith discovered a magic formula for placing speakers correctly?

It really depends what type and how much DSP is used, as with most things in almost any area of endeavor. A blanket statement either for or against DSP flies in the face of experimental and...

Re: The WAPO article and the fuss it has caused

One would think that by this time both the scientific (and some subjective) justifications for digital audio and the subjective (and some scientific) justifications for LPs would be well known to...

Re: Review of Pass Labs INT-60

Not that it really matters, but I think YouTube audiophile channels are possibly useful to generate interest in high-end audio but of little or no use to people who are already audiophiles.

How are all the SC and Florida 'Sharks doing now that there has been some time to assess the impact on your physical and emotional states? Here's hoping there are some positives today

    Re: Ian

According to a friend of mine, Ian had little if any effect in Ft. Lauderdale.

Any word from Mike on how he is doing?

Re: Roon 2.0 update or wait?

I have a business ISP account (with a much "hardier" infrastructure than consumer accounts), and there are outages several times a year, usually less than 2 hours. Some are scheduled (typically...

Re: Roon 2.0 update or wait?

I don't use Roon (it won't recognize too much of my music) but this property of 2.0 has been the issue for many (and apparently Roon is trying to bury discussion of this on its forums).

Production is finally ramping back up at Pass so hopefully your wait won't be much longer

This pair just arrived (and breaking in). :)

Re: Pass INT-60 or Boulder 866?

Isnít there a significant price difference? And power? Also IIRC the Boulder has 3 balanced ins, the Pass 2 balanced and 2 SE.

As far as binding posts itís tough to beat (or even equal) those on...

Re: Got New DAC - MSB Premier

The real question is what relevance this and your earlier post have to this topic thread?? You don't mention the MSB Premier, and it isn't even clear what you are trying to communicate. Are you...

    Re: USB cables & musings

I moved from AQ Carbon to the short Curious USB to the Sablon Audio Evo USB, with improvement noted at each step; quite a large one moving to Sablon but it came with a price "penalty."

I would predict (not having heard it) that the Formula xHD at $17.5k provides some serious competition to the MSB Discrete (with its new higher pricing) and DCS Bartok

It seems unlikely (those prices are still the same as about 2 years ago), but these days, who knows??
  19. Re: The Absolute Sound Interview with Olympic Legend and Veteran Audiophile Mark Spitz

  20. Re: The Absolute Sound Interview with Olympic Legend and Veteran Audiophile Mark Spitz

Lee, not your fault but there appears to be a problem logging in to the digital TAS. Password isn't recognized, and when it is changed ("successfully") the new one is then not recognized, ad...

    Re: Acoustat-X

Someone is a little confused here. The Models 3 and 4 came right after the X and were the last to use the S-C amps. The panels in those were raised about 10-12Ē but they did not have the pedestal...

    Re: Acoustat-X

The biggest problem with the Model 4 and the Monitor 4 (which you have) is that the 4 panel models sound better in a 2+2 configuration than in the 4 across configuration. Many Acoustat owners...

I'm not sure why this poster is speculating from random recollections. There are many images and other discussions of the Monitor 4 on-line, and it is clear that this is what you have. The Model 4...

I'm fairly sure those are the second iteration of the Monitor 4; IIRC the first version still used the S-C amps.
