I call those things tube roasters. They don't have enough contact area to allow heat dissipation, and enclosing the tube in a sleeve doesn't allow proper air flow.

The dimmers are where the noise is coming from. Incandescent bulbs (without dimmers) oscillate at 60 hz. You are fortunate the leds are quiet. Noise is their only drawback.

I agree, the Philips are quiet.
Noise can be a problem with LED lamps, especially cheap ones.

I would want to know what electrical approvals those cheap lamps have. The crappy Chinese ones are unreliable at best and dangerous at worst. Buy only from reputable authorized suppliers.

It's not just sub $500.00 products that aren't being repaired. Some of the big box store gear like TV's and HT receivers get replaced as opposed to repaired. It's cheaper for those types of stores...
