Re: Sugden LS21
Implementation of 1/4 wave TLs is much the same, in the two design cases - both appear to be straight, untapered "pipes".
If the column of air is unimpeded by a labyrinth or stuffing, it may... -

1/4 wave TL designs require careful placement. Casual layout can emphasize a single room mode to produce "one-note" bass.
Experiments with the similar Definitive Technology designs leave me... -

There's the ideal transducer, then there's what can be made today - and the inevitable compromises imposed by materials used.

My definition includes faithful rendering of natural singing voices. That's 100 hz to 5kz.
Most convincing applications of this type need a subwoofer and "helper" tweeter.

I have a similar setup with an NAD M51.
If the digital volume control is sufficiently "deep" you won't lose resolution if it controls gain.

If this is temporary, keep in mind stronger resale value on MacIntosh tube gear.
I would suggest seeking out a loaner or buying a dedicated amp to run the woofers.

My NAD M51 doesn't have this level variance with my music library. I suspect that I gravitate towards recordings with little compression.

The largest contributors to distractions resulting in MVAs are the driver's years of experience (younger drivers tend to have less), talking to passengers and eating/drinking behind the wheel.

My measured hearing tapers above 12 kHz and still I can hear obvious differences between playback media. The most obvious being dynamics on uncompressed recordings.

Microphones and loudspeakers induce distortion orders of magnitude greater than either medium mentioned.

I suspect active monitors, and DSP filtered subs will fill the void. To stay below five figures (let alone six), complete systems must be from larger product runs.
