    Re: Magico S5 mk3

Might have been easier to understand the price increase if Magico had called the new S5 an S6. It appears to be a lot closer to an S7 than it used to be, on paper anyway.
  2. Re: Suncoast Audio Launches “The Powered By Pass Program”

I hope this means there will be a pair of XS 300s and an XS Pre in the showroom. 😃

    Re: DAC (Re) Search

Been using the Berkeley Reference DAC since Version 1. They sound different from other DACs (in a good way IMO) and for me they hit the sweet spot ... not inexpensive but a reasonable price for true...

    Re: Shunyata Typhon T2

Right now my PassLabs XS300 amps are on Shunyata Sigma HC power cords plugged directly into the wall... each on its own dedicated circuit.

What would have the most positive impact on my system......

    Re: Shunyata Typhon T2

So... what improvement could I expect if I put a TYPHON T2 in front of each of my amplifiers, which are presently plugged straight into the wall?

Re: Any fountain pen users here?

Pilot Vanishing Point retractable fountain pen. Sits in your pocket with the (retracted) nib pointing up, so much less issue with leaks. I have several of them. :)

    Re: MSB Select II

Great answer. I would suggest that the word anchor is not the best word to use in this regard. I would call it a keystone... the central principle or part of a policy, system, etc., on which all else...

    Re: Mike's system

Seems an appropriate analogy - the delicate art of high fidelity has evolved into the manly art of audiophilia - a contact sport.
  11. Re: *NEW - Berkeley Audio Design - Alpha DAC Series 3

JRiver is what Berkeley recommends. They seem to think it's best for conversions.

The only DSD material I have is from ripped SACDs. Very often the SACD content is a totally different version from...
  12. Re: *NEW - Berkeley Audio Design - Alpha DAC Series 3

I've had the Berkeley Ref DAC in all of its incarnations since soon after it launched. To me, it has always been a great sounding DAC although like everything else digital it continues to evolve over...

    Re: Top Tier Amps

Top-tier isn’t hard to define: of the highest level or rank with regard to quality, reputation, or importance.

That said, it will mean different things to audiophiles, reviewers, dealers,...

Re: Warm-up time for Pass amps?

I suspect that the Class A and A/B amps don’t warm up at the same speed. Further, the power output, number of chassis involved (1, 2 or 4), whether they’re stacked, racked, or separated from other...

Re: Warm-up time for Pass amps?

I think George is just about spit on with the 4 hour warm-up.

Unlike George, I like to listen to mine as they warm. For the first 30 to 45 minutes the sound is a bit hard and constrained between...

    Strange thread.

I’m well satisfied with my “3rd tier” amps.

    Re: Shunyata Grounding System

The Pass mono amps have a labeled grounding lug on the back (amplifier stage, not power supply stage... these are 2 chassis mono blocks). So I’m guessing that grounding may be indicated, at least...

    Re: Shunyata Grounding System

Each of my mono amps has its own dedicated line and 2000 T… so 2 lines, 2 2000 T’s.

My front end is on a separate dedicated line with an Everest 8000.

What’s the best way to ground my amps… a...

I updated my new W20SE right out of the box so no basis for before/after comparison. I will say that the W20SE is a clear improvement over the N10. And it’s still improving with use... 🥳

You're assuming that speaker manufacturers who make other audio components as well use their own components when the voice their speakers. It's probably a safe assumption in most cases.

Or I could use the Denali 2000Ts for my QSub 15s, which are currently slumming it with only Sigma NR cords to the wall.
