Re: Tube Rolling for Lampizator Level 7
I am not a fan of the 50. The 50 was made for a very short time (Alan Douglas who knew more about tubes than any human on the planet) had an article on them in Sound Practices. I think his comment...

Assuming you have a newer big 7 that takes 1 5-volt rectifier, the 422A will slide right in and work.

They look right structure wise, but are there any date codes on the glass or base? The getter flashing is the least amount I have seen on one of these tubes. It looks right though.

Re: Tube Rolling Update in latest balanced Golden Gate...
Good luck. Just remember, I did not love them with my 300B output tubes. Put in 275As and it sounded heavenly. With the 300Bs, it was just too accurate. Became sterile.

Re: My EML Lampizator 45s are on their way
I have seen some tube failures with my DIY experiments, so I am not so scared. But the smell of a resistor burn out gets me. Anyway, I think the sound of thoriated tungsten is really what drives...

IMHO, Tak 300Bs are the closest to WE 300Bs out there now. I have not heard ElRogs and have not owned Taks, but I have now spent time with them. They are great.

Got a pair of UV71 rectifiers recently. Basically Westinghouse Canadian U52s. They are next on the testing list.

Never heard of a microphonic rectifier. That said, I have not used much more than my ears to test the sound.

45 GBP is a steal for that tube if you are using non-300B tubes (I hate the tube with the 300b). Not sure where you found them.

Re: Tube Rolling Update in latest balanced Golden Gate...
I prefer the 275A/5R4GY combo. For my WE 300Bs, I prefer the 422A/274B I have. The 5R4GY just cleaned up a bit of compression I perceived in the music. Then, swapping to the 300Bs, it was not a...

Well, I want to share an experience about possible break-in... I have my k03-xd for about 1 year now and recently got into playing a lot of CDs (incl. SACD) which I might have done about 50 times...
