Re: Jackson Brown - Running on Empty (Max)

The remastered 24/192 version on Qobuz is horrible. At first it appears more dynamic, but it's really not. JB's voice is drowned out by reverb. The 16/44.1 version smokes the remastered 24/192...

Re: Jackson Brown - Running on Empty (Max)

I can't listen to Tidal because I dropped it long ago. I was asking if the version you are hearing is 24/192 and it has the crowd ambience before the first song that the original version doesn't.

Re: Jackson Brown - Running on Empty (Max)

Is this the 24/192 version in which the first song has some chatter/crowd ambience before it starts which isn't there in the original release of the album?

Re: Jackson Brown - Running on Empty (Max)

Personally, I would change "I have some" some to "I have many," but that would be on Qobuz and not Tidal and their MQA sheep dip.

    Re: Adventures in Downsizing

Sounds too good to be true. I have never heard of anyone who gave up a big stereo system capable of covering the full audio range with large-scale dynamics and a realistic soundstage and replaced it...

Chris-You had lots of reasons why moving/downsizing was the right thing for you to do and I completely understand the decisions you made. What I was addressing was the automatic script that when you...

    Re: Adventures in Downsizing

That may or may not be true, but there certainly seems to be an expectation from the masses that with retirement comes downsizing your home and lifestyle. I know that from the barrage of questions...

Joe, I'm happy to hear that you are in your late 70s and still enjoy listening to music and are still upgrading your system! I find that refreshing.

    Re: Adventures in Downsizing

Nicoff, it isn't just downsizing your audio gear footprint. I'm quoting you here from your original post on this thread:

"The music zone is now in our living area. As for the cinema... well, it's...

Where do other people get off telling you that you must downsize? That's nuts and none of their business. Now there is a commercial on TV that tells "empty nesters" that they need to sell their...

Pro audio gear has size standards called the Rack Unit (RU). Home audio gear can be whatever size a company wants to make it. As for pulling the top off of an amplifier and not seeing much inside...

  19. Re: Has anybody here received NEW defective music CD's. DVD movies or Blu-ray disc movies right out of the box?

100% incorrect. ISO 9000/9001 certification doesn't guarantee any degree of quallity. It just means you paid your annual certification fees so you can fly a meaningless flag outside of your...

Re: Returning to the Roots of Musical Enjoyment

I for one am not fixated on resolution per se, I'm fixated on SQ. The majority of my digital listening is 16/44.1 files because I find they sound better than far too many "hi-rez" files. Having...

I assume you meant that you will retire at the end of 2024. A move from Mobile, AL to Seattle, WA is quite the move. I hope it all works out for the best.

Now we have at least two people on AS that love the sound of 320 kbps. I'm glad that you are OK with downsizing your stereo system and you are happy with the outcome.
