  1. Re: So has anyone replaced the 6550s in their Ref 10 with KT88s?

Mike...I may be incorrect however I kinda read Marty's post more along the lines of I would like to hear about user experience of this implementation before I consider such, rather than, I am in the...

    Re: Audio Research 160M

Makes one wonder whether there are similar plans afoot for a makeover of the REF 250se's ?
  3. Re: So has anyone replaced the 6550s in their Ref 10 with KT88s?

Most interesting Barry, pleased to read that you survived that valve fail unscathed.

Re: Choice of 6550 tube for Ref 6

Are you quite certain that the GE valve that you tried was measuring up to full NOS spec ?
I ask as having A/B'd the current production TungSol against an 70's GE, measuring as New, my subjective...

Re: Choice of 6550 tube for Ref 6

IMHO the GE's exhibit a clean neutral yet natural presence with nothing added or taken away whatever genre of recording, quite similar are the 70's production grey vented plate TungSol's

    Early...

Re: ARC Ref 10 vs CJ GAT(2) ?

Re: ARC Ref 10 vs CJ GAT(2) ?

Most pleased for you Joe :D I would heartily recommend a couple of tweeks to your factory Ref10, perhaps when you have a few more hours on the clock.

Try tube rolling the 6550 Sovtek regulators...

Re: ARC Ref 10 vs CJ GAT(2) ?

That is the down side Unfortunatly, genuine NOS 6h30-DR's in particular not to mention the minefield of several EBay sellers listing new production Sovtek (ergo what you have anyway) as genuine Pre...

Re: ARC Ref 10 vs CJ GAT(2) ?

The thing is, unless you roll in NOS valves you will not be experiencing what the Ref10 is capable of. I run mine with mid 70's production GE6550A regulators and a full set of NOS 80's production...

    Re: Quad 2905

Having run both 2905's and 2912's IMO tweeks designed into the latter made for a positive evolution upon its Predecessor, On a plus note Quad brought production back from China.

    Re: Audio Research REF 160M

A case of swings and roundabouts, the valve and bias circuit tolerances are more important to match as close as possible with the ARC design, however the CJ is running the KT's a fair bit harder than...

  25. Re: Auditioning ARC Reference 250 SE monoblocks at home

No great surprise considering your incombent pre amplification Sharp......Synergy Synergy Synergy.
