We need more threads in the Rega forum, so how about this. What cartridge are you using on your Rega table?

I started off with an Ortofon Black/Bronze. Worked nicely but wanted to get a MC so ended up getting the Rega Ania Pro. Very nice cartridge and perfect match to my RP8!

Have a buddy with a Planar 8 and he initially had it setup with the Rega Ania Pro. He has since upgraded to an Audio Technica AT-ART9 and finds it to be a substantial upgrade. Since the Rega tables have no VTA adjustment other than using tonearm spacers, dialing in a cartridge like the Ortofon 2M Black with its Shibata stylus can be quite a challenge and unlikely to be able to reach optimal performance. There is definitely some advantage in using a Rega cartridge on their tables since with the three bolt mounting and matched cartridge height setup is easily achieved with optimal overhang and VTA/SRA setting.

Yea, Rega cartridges are a breeze to setup with the 3-bolt mount, etc. I like AT cartridges and use one on my secondary Technics table. Certainly not as high as the ART but impressive cartridges (it is the VM740ML).

Did your buddy have any issues setting up the AT on his Rega table?

I started out with the Elys on my P3 and then went to the Dynavector 10x5. The 10x5 was much more lively and better sounding, I forget what gear I was using at the time but I remember wishing the Dyna had a bit more texture/color on things like sax. The dealer set it up so I'm confident it was spot on. The 10x5 is an excellent cart I just think I like my sound not so neutral, but if you ask I'm not admitting it, LOL

My P3 came with the Elys 2 and was a steal when I got it. Just getting back into vinyl, along with the Phono section of the Lux, I am pretty happy for now. I suppose in the future there will be an upgrade.

Upgrade... what is this thing that you speak of? :D....

Using the review Planar 10 with the Rega Apheta 3 MC cart pre-installed. I really like it. It is very, very detailed and very, very neutral.

So are you going to keep the review table? It looks really awesome to me!

He did it himself and set the overhang using a gauge, but I kind of doubt that the VTA is really dialed in at the Rega's default arm height. The stylus profile of the AT-ART9 is not as fussy regarding VTA as a Shibata stylus.

My Planar 3 came with an Elys. Changed it out to a Dynavector Karat 17D3. It cost more than the table. Massive upgrade.
