Aurender N100H [Hard Drive Upgrade]
I own the Aurender N100H and love it. In fact, I am considering the Aurender W20, their flagship server and player. I purchased the N100H because it was cheap. After a year of owning it, I want to now jump in and replace both internal drives with Samsung SSD Pro. One drive is a SSD and the other is a 1TB spinner. I plan to do what I did when I upgraded the McIntosh MB100.
This evening I sent Aurender a support inquiry to replace the 1TB library drive with a 1TB SSD. I am not worried about warranty but if they have any additional tips beyond the obvious, it certainly doesn't hurt to ask.
I will loop back to this thread and let you all know what they say. Otherwise, I will bit for bit duplicate the spinner to the SSD
Re: Aurender N100H [Hard Drive Upgrade]
I would recommend to do the 265 GB SSD + 2 TB HDD setup, will serve you better. No benefit whatsoever from storing a library on SSD. The SSD only brings a benefit through faster access, when the Aurender transfers files internally from HDD to SSD for the play que. I have that setup, works like a charm.

Did you replace the drives in your Aurender?
Re: Aurender N100H [Hard Drive Upgrade]
I don't really understand the point of what you are trying to accomplish. The Aurender only uses the platter based drives to hold your files, it pulls them from that drive and caches them into the SSD drive for playback. This is the beauty of the Aurender products. I own both a N100H and a N10

Yes. I did not buy the H version, but the regular which comes with the 256 GB SSD Samsung and had an additional 2 TB fitted by the dealer before delivery.

So so you just increased your platter based drive storage? Another great feature of the Aurender is expandabilty.

Yes - it is exactly as you say: there is no technical or audible benefit in storing your library on a SSD vs. a HDD on the Aurender. This is, as the playlist is transferred to SSD for playback.
Even with 16x DSD (Meitner DA2 - not sure any content exists though) 256 GB is enough.

Can you hear the HDD bring accessed? I have a N100 on loan with a 1tb SSD and I love that during late night sessions the silences are absolutely silent.
With my Mac mini and FireWire HDD I hated I could hear the disk drive being accessed.

Nope, as the music is not transferred on the fly, but before the playback starts.
And at least I for my part do not hear the transfer beforehand either.

Hi....
I have the N100H....
I have a 512gb SSD that I would like to use instead of the 128gb SSD that the unit came with....
Is it as simple as taking out the old drive, and plugging in the new drive, and it will work, or must some software be transferred, or the drive formatted ? or something I am not thinking of.....
Thanks for any info.
Shelly

Hello Shelly, welcome. The HDD/ SSD needs to be configured to work. So I guess it's a dealer job. I had mine done by a dealer.
Mike will know, as he is a dealer for Aurender as well.

Hey Shelly,
I have a McIntosh MB100 with two proprietary formatted drives. I simply bit for bit copied the drive on to two SSDs and worked flawlessly. I assuming I am able to do the same. I have the new Samsung Pro SSD. I just haven't copied the drive over yet. I can't imagine it's a big deal. The Aurender or any other file serving similar device is just a computer. The MB100 is in large part an Atonomics device and I spoke with their tech guys and they were like...oh now. It's sooooo special... you can't do that... NOT! So Lame LOL
Re: Aurender N100H [Hard Drive Upgrade]
Nice read guys,
As I'm torn between either said Aurrender N100H, or Lumin D1 as a dedicated music server, I'm following everything I can find on both, so while this is a old thread it still carries weight in my mind.

D1 has DAC. N100H does not. If you're going to use an external DAC, then it's a no brainer: N100H. PM me if you want to discuss more.

Thanks Mike,
As I'm enjoying the cheap by a lotta you guys standards little PS Audio NuWave DSD DAC tied to a Mac Mini, I'm more inclined to pursue said N100H, yet I've my heart set on getting a pair of Boenicke W5SEs in the new year before finalizing matters with said server.
But I'll certainly come to you once said moment arrives.
Re: Aurender N100H [Hard Drive Upgrade]

Thanks Mike
I'm afraid that the unit is off warranty
And that would take some months
Here in France , the importer doesn't offer the possibility
Cheers
