There are different reasons why someone may be drawn to an EV car. It may be the effortless and impressive acceleration performance of an electric drivetrain, it may be the more simple and perhaps more reliable drivetrain with less moving parts, it may even be the feeling of a “clean” charge from the wall or recharging station instead of gasoline or diesel stink.
One cannot have a serious conversation however about reducing the carbon emissions without looking at the whole picture and reality of where we are with the sources of our electricity and green energy today.

So the advantages of a green energy future are clear. How we can get there with today’s infrastructure and sources of energy is a totally different matter. If anyone thinks this can be easily accomplished , it is far from it. It would take the equivalent of Global GDP to even come close.

So buy and drive those EV cars if you are thinking you are helping offset the carbon footprint but don’t be disillusioned by the hype either. It’s not that simple.

EV is here to accelerate tomorrow. It is going nowhere but up.
Manufacturers are putting their energy and money on efficiency and longer distance, and some EV designs are very attractive to Hollywood actors and actresses audiophiles.
India, China, Russia, USA, Mexico, Brazil, Dubai, ...can make better use of EV than cardiac attack (poison) or carbon monoxide in the lungs (Corona).
Money? Bitcoin, energized by solar panels and wind turbines. The future is not ours (we'll be dead), it's our grandchildren and great grandchildren. Us we're just dust in the wind, a fire in the oven, hashes in a vase engraved with flowers and eagles and mountains and oceans. EV is here to stick, today, tomorrow and after many many more tomorrows, long time after all audioshark members are gone.
Only our grand and great grandchildren will remain to benefit of an EV world...100%.

Thats not so Bob , EV is a waste of time, no wait, a complete waste of time and makes no earthly sense , its only here due to current zeitgeist and government arm twisting and of course stolen treasury cash to pay for it . Left to its own devices and normal Business cycles and trades it would be a complete , nonstarter as it was in 1908...
The electric propelled vehicles got started way earlier. In the 1830s there was an electric locomotive... The first human carrying electric vehicle, a tricycle for the streets, was powered by the recent invention of the Lead Acid battery in 1881 in France.
Didn't take long to figure out the internal combustion engine and gasoline packed much more energy... :rolleyes:

I can smell the wild flowers being convertible.
It is full steam ahead for EV. No stopping that train now that the public has been sold that idea of saving the planet. Ultimately the consumer will pay much more for energy/electric as the cost of this "change in infrastructure" is passed on to each one of us. The energy prices have been going up at least 2.8 percent a year lately, sometimes more without making any changes... Let's see what happens in another decade. :rolleyes:

I'm driving a gasoline car right now, my chainsaw uses gas ⛽, my lawnmower too.
Some chainsaws are EC, battery powered and rechargeable, wireless like the Internet.

I agree with you Serge. Gas/oil is going to fight hard for the next fifty years, but it is futile...it won't last forever. It'll stay underground, on the grey market, the scammer's currency, the Earth polluters, the outlaws, the destroyers, the greedy infiltrers, the poisonous bunch, all that broken psychedelic jazz. It is inevitable; EV is unstoppable.

I'll bet you have never driven a performance EV; when you do you will realize that this is how a car is supposed to work
Superficially hybrids make sense until you realize that they have all the disadvantages of a IC powered car (engine and drivetrain maintenance, heavier than either IC or EV, more noise, vibration, etc) without the performance of an EV

Based on data and facts, hybrids are at a significant disadvantage compared to EV’s in almost every area. Based on the driving experience, hybrids and IC powered cars are at a significant disadvantage compared to EV’s. So either way...
FWIW I do not yet own an EV (although I have loved our hybrid going on 15 years), but I can’t foresee me buying any other type of vehicle in the future.
F1 are Hybrid racing cars Bob , top Ferrari and Porsche’s too, what about formula E , ever watch one of those all EV races :)
EV craze is manufactured, its all a big Con to reset with different controlling metrics , nothing to do with efficiency or earth saving tactics, the 90 mpg is very viable with todays tech , lean burn recovery hybrids can achieve this with close to zero emissions, this is all doable with current DI engines..
EV cars will take decades to achieve the same level and worse for the environment getting there, now ask yourself how is the planet with 50-100 M ev cars running around gonna develope the infrastructure to get Bob across country in the winter( heating /lights /wipers going shorten battery life by 70% ) up to his favorite ski slope With millions running on the road waiting for a power charge from the local coal and gas company .. :)

I'm just kidding. I started the thread after seeing the MG sports car EV...a total beauty to my eyes.
I used to drive a MG convertible (1975), burgundy. It was a lot of fun for many fun years.
Also there are EVs now for all prices and many styles, some very cool ones.
Plus, the mileage is getting expanded, the batteries more efficient, built in Canada (Montreal).
This is the age of EV, our time now. Not for all of us right away but eventually, it's the evolution of our environment and our economy. That sure is what I'm seeing and I'm 100% fine in the perfecting of our transportation.

The electric cars still do not solve the one fundamental problem.... "traffic"... There are however many more "vertical" lanes of travel than there are "horizontal" :)
I think that by the year 2100 we'll be riding/flying more electric drones.
They'll have computer chips to be collision-free.
Meanwhile we can improve our infrastructures; highways, bridges, tunnels, ...all that jazz.

We owned a Telsa, (2018 Model S P100D) about the worst car we ever owned. Freaking super quick, and pissed off the Vette and 911 guys, but even the warranty couldn't help the conditioning repair issues. We have two older Lexus cars ( ES350 & GS350) in the family, one has 57K and the other has 65 K, not a single problem with either and going strong. But one of the hold backs for us with EV, was the limitations on mileage. We make multiple trips to the mountains and with EV stopping along the way for hours to recharge in the freaking pits, unless you can FIND a Telsa charging station. Sold it and I bought me a F150. Now the F150 Lightning coming out late this year is interesting, 563 horsepower and 775 lb.-ft. of torque, and a 0-60 mph time in the mid-4-second range when equipped with an extended-range battery, but again mileage is a hold back. Its like buy a EV for close to home and drive your RV or gas cars and trucks for those long range trips.
Very interesting. We have been looking at a Tesla or other EV. But that charging stuff has to get to “under 10 minutes” for a 75-85% charge IMO. It’s coming….but not quite there….yet.
Every car manufacturer is focused now on EV, it will be the future. The only exception is Dodge, they are sitting around thinking “screw that, let’s put that Hellcat engine in a pickup truck!” LOL.
We've been considering getting an EV as well. Test drove a Tesla - very quick and good ride but found the interior finishes to be very plasticky and not well executed. We will not get an EV until 400+ miles range is the standard and the recharging infrastructure is quicker and more prevalent.
Also, with the push for EVs, I haven't heard of much power grid infrastructure development to supply the additional demand for electricity.
I'm in agreement here as well. With commitment will come the infrastructure that's needed. One thing that will be interesting is while most homeowners will be able to add charging stations to their garages I wonder how the masses that live in apartment/condo complexes that park in 'lots' will manage ?

I can see it now, long long extension cords running out of windows all over the place. :D, Condo's, Apartments home owners and the makers of these products need to really think this through. Will those back roads people drive on have charging stations and will those little sleepy towns on the outside of large communities have charging stations. To little now and those that are are far and few between. . And you are pretty much dedicated to major highways. ChargePoint

I read the Washington Post everyday as well as other credible news, so I'm fully aware of what will happen to this planet if we don't start taking global warming seriously.
Agree that the locations are limited (and that would hold me back from a purely plug in vehicle - I have a 2020 Lexus RX450h and that's why). Is the Chargepint site supposed to be all EV charging locations? If so, it is missing some down my way. One has been there quite a while and the other several months.
I was all set to go all in on a Tesla but I'm having second thoughts right now.
I see some issues when the batteries/vehicles are out of warranty. Sometimes they want to replace the entire battery pack for a somewhat simple coolant plumbing repair.
Contrary to popular belief, there is some maintenance required, although a lot less than the average ICE vehicle.
You don't want an EV out of warranty .... !!!
