enjoy it. great system!
Wow
Congratulations!!!
Heard the F1/Essence combo at Mike's recently and it was pretty special indeed! Congrats
Looks awesome John. I’ll text you my F1 settings and you can try them and see if you like them.

Finally! Congrats, hope you really enjoy them.
Check out the veneer to see if they used consecutive slices. They should look almost identical.
Play lots of Marcus Miller and Victor Wooten to speed up breakin :)
Hi John,
Congratulations on the new speakers. I just know you’re going to love them. I’ve had mine just over a year. I’ve got them dialed-in in my small second bedroom of a high rise condo. If you have any questions I’d be happy to talk.
Out of curiosity, where are you in NC? Prior to retiring to DC three years ago, we were in Raleigh for 10 years, Cary for 10 years before that and Charlotte for 5 years before that. Also had a condo in Wilmington.
Congratulations.
Brian they did used consecutive slices, Dylan thats awesome you have the F1-10, I was also looking at the Boulder 866 before purchasing the Gryphon. I'm in Charlotte but temporarily staying at the Jersey shore doing guardianship duties. Mike I'll take those F1 setting when you get a chance.Thank you to everyone else.
The upper ‘Energy’ control alters the level of signal fed to the tweeter, from the crossover point upwards, giving control over how bright the presentation sounds.
The lower ‘Presence’ control only affects the lower treble region of 2.5 - 5.0kHz, and influences articulation and vocal clarity and having an effect on image depth.

Thanks Mike, I could use them on the SPs :)
Hi John,
I played around with the presence and high frequency controls for a bit, and in the end left them at flat. Same with my previous Tannoy Canterbury’s. I’m curious what you do.
Do you plan to use aftermarket footers? I used Isoacoustics Gaia’s on my previous speakers (TAD ME1’s) with a positive effect. I want to use them on the Fyne’s, especially to reduce floor transmission in a high rise condo, but I don’t know if they will fit in the Fyne’s unique base, what size screws/threads to use and if they will improve the sound.
Enjoy!
Here’s the settings we like for them in our 17 x 25 room. Presence is not turned down all the way, the picture doesn’t quite show it, but it’s a couple of notches up.

Well, I ordered the Gaia I’s from Mike a couple of months ago to use on the F1’s. They don’t use any of the screws that come in their box. They sent M-16 screw’s for the F1which is the right circumference but the threads on Gaia M16 aren’t the same as the threads on the F1’s. Right now Gaia looking into it. I hope they figure it out because those footers are real nice.
I haven’t played with the F1 dials yet just letting the speaker break in.
Dylan it looks like we like the same speaker companies.
John, if you do figure out the Gaia’s and are pleased with the improvements, I’d appreciate if you’d let me know.
Our common speaker history is quite the coincidence. Although I have to say I am most happy with the Fyne’s, especially in my small (13’ x 14’) room. They don’t have the majesty of the Canterbury’s but are more transparent, neutral and go lower, while retaining the coherence and tone. I’ve never heard big TAD’s. The ME1’s sounded good, but lacked the bottom end, and I realized they took up as much room as a floorstander.

Congratulations! Beautiful and great sounding speakers.
Congrats, and wow ! , enjoy !
Congratulations. I think these are excellent looking speakers and would love to hear them. I've read some excellent reports. I might have preferred the controls on the back of the speakers though for aesthetic reasons. How efficient are the speakers and what does one need in terms of amplifier power?
Well, I got a few straight hours in yesterday to listen to the speakers. For a speaker with only one a 10 inch driver, I’m amazed at the amount and the depth of bass authority this speaker lets out. Female and male voices are laser sharp coming from the tweeter (in a good way). Gryphon and Fyne definitely have good synergy together. I have that sound of being at a live concert. Right now I have Energy dial at level two. I haven’t played with the presence yet or tried higher than 2 notches yet on the Energy dial. Finally Im so happy Mike recommeded the Walnut veneer finish. Definitely on par with the TAD R1 finish.
I’m so glad you like them. I think they will continue to grow on you. And the fit and finish is superb. Enjoy!
It sounds like similar characteristics are observed no matter what model of Fyne. Crystal sharp vocals and percussion, the amount of Bass response and the Walnut Finnish. Also the live sound, I was used to the band being up there on the stage but now the band is right over there in the corner of my room.
Well today I punished my Fyne’s for 2 hours straight. I threw the kitchen sink at her today everything from Jazz , classical and good old rock and roll. The volume on Gryphon Essence was set at 25. The bass was deep and controlled without overwhelming the speaker shell or the room. What is awesome is that I don’t have an ounce of sibilance. It’s hard to believe that I’m in such a good place as far as listening. I believe I have dialed in the energy and presence dials for the space I’m in (3 o’clock for the energy and 7 o’clock for the presence. The Gryphon still amazes me that I can leave it on 24/7 with barely any heat ( love the Green bias). The only sad thing is now I’m craving the Audioquest Dragon power cord and Shunyata Research Omega USB.🙄
You are a lucky guy. I wish I could really crank mine up but I can’t (high rise condo). I’ll bet you weren’t even “punishing” them- they were probably just loafing along. It is really special when you can immerse yourself in the music and not even think about the equipment. Congratulations!
Have you tried the Gaia’s yet? What did you think?
Not really in the same league, but some folks who have recently heard my - finally dialed-in - 703s have been amazed at their Dynamics, Tone & Presence, at a musical involvement level significantly beyond my previously well-received demo system with modified Tannoy Canterburys, at an overall price of about one-fifth (!) of the price of that system...
If I wasn't dedicated to showing the overall benefits of system set-up, as it relates to TTSB, I'd be on the F1 floor-standing series in a heartbeat!
VERY interested in further Fyne impressions from prior Tannoy owners. Tannoy Prestige series seem to be handicapped on bass performance with the weird venting system instead of a bass reflex. Anyone know what acoustic advantages/purposes (if any) the venting has versus bass reflex? I guess the Canterbury's venting allows "variable bass tuning" with the sliding rails, but I'd always run them wide open ever since my SE's burned in, and from day #1 on my current GR. The Yorkminster SE was the odd one in the Prestige line since it used bass reflex, and its bass was amazing (auditioned them in my home, so no room variable) - easily better than Canterbury (SE or GR), but then its midrange wasn't as beautiful and its image not as grandiose as the Canterbury.
Anyways it's great to see Tannoy's legacy live on in Fyne. I hope old Tannoy can keep going, too. I have to say I'm quite fond of looking at the gold-colored Tannoy pepperpot horns, and I miss seeing that on the Fynes! Still a beautiful driver.
And also, you guys have such beautiful setups. Clearly folks who love Tannoy & Fyne are fellows of true class

Today I had an listen of F1-10 with classe pre and power. Impression is the depth is quite amazing, the vocals pop in front with instruments layering behind. Good resolution and holographic too.
However the low end is far from satisfying. Sounded detached from the soundstage and doesn’t sound like a floodstander. Fyne F702 in the next room delivered deeper bass, which is strange.
Can I check with F1-10 users, how do you find the bass performance?
as far as settings go, I setup the F1-12s with them in the neutral position and then tried adjusting in and out. ended up using 1 notch more on the treble, that's it (and others liked none). Mike's room is fully treated with carpet, so not surprised his needed more. its a nice feature to have, but don't go overboard.
