Full function pre-amp or volume control box?
Chaps,
I am putting together a new, or call it upgraded, 2-channel audio system. In my previous systems I always had full function pre-amps.
My current system comprises a tube power amp and a CD player linked to an inexpensive Schiit Sys volume control with a 2-input switch. Now I want to add my turntable. To do that I need a tube MM/MC phono stage.
My question is, will I be better off sonically with this configuration or just eliminate the Schiit and purchase a full function preamp? I use only two sources, that's it, I do not need balance or tape features.
I already have an excellent tube phono stage in mind.
Cheers,

Welcome. You can try it with the Sys only in between the phono stage and the amp but think you will need a phono stage with quite a lot of gain and in the end having to give in and add a preamp. Your CD player is putting out 2+ volts and even a high gain phono stage will not approach that.

Thanks, got it. Full function will be!!!
