big time fan here. but being an Italian Canadian i don't know who to cheer for. i guess i would like to see messi win the cup for what he has done for the game. john
Yep!
Força Portugal!!!
I'm hoping that tomorrow we'll be able to beat nuestros hermanos, our Spanish neighbours.
Big time fan here. I have been a long-time (since 1981!) Spurs (English Premier League) supporter at the club level but always support Germany at World Cup. The 1982 semi-finals (Germany vs. France) was what converted me to Germany as a 12 year old boy watching the World Cup. An all-time classic game. They went on to lose to Italy 3-1 in the finals, which was also another world cup classic.
So glad that coverage of European soccer leagues and the World Cup has been on the ascendancy in the US in the last ten years. I can now watch my EPL games from mid-August thru May consistently :celebrate008_2:
Soccer , Ohhhh , Football ...! Yea
Caught the last 15 min of the game today, saw 2 highlight reel goals (out of 5!). Nice start by the home team.
Between the games and Motogp practice tomorrow I probably wont get much done. :)
You have that CRT humming there Bro :)
:roflmao:
Long time fan here.
Best Polish team won in 74 with Brazil 1:0 for the third place, then 3:2 with France in 82 also winnig the 3rd place.
My first championship to watch in tv with my Dad were in Mexico, 1970.
Yes, I love watching soccer. Mainly follow the Spurs in the Premier League. My two international teams are out of it this year (The Netherlands & USA). I'll still be watching as many matches as I can supporting the Spurs players.
Started watching soccer when we hosted the Cup in 1994. Since then, I follow our national team somewhat closely, and watch the occasional EPL and Bundesliga match, especially if an American is playing. Feels strange to not have our team in the Cup finals this year, but we really didn’t deserve a spot. I do feel bad for Pulisic, though.
Since we’re not involved this time around, my rooting interests are as follows:
1) All the CONCACAF teams (yes, even Mexico).
2) All the African teams.
3) Brazil.
4) Any team playing Germany or Uruguay.
could care less unless the US was in it - may watch some knock-out round action. soft spot for Argentina as i loved my trip there.
Great match:
Cristiano Ronaldo 3- Spain 3
Was an excellent match for the neutral. Hopefully the rest of the tournament is as good. That free kick by Ronaldo was amazing.
Pretty entertaining game. I liked it.

Ronaldo might be a petulant brat, but man is he brilliant.
Portugal- Spain, what a match!
We want more :)
I have enjoyed all the matches so far , Spain vs Renaldo lived up to expectations, great World cup so far , I do hope Salah gets a chance to play and would love to see Argentina vs Portugal or Brazil along the way...
BTW , Feel free to say Football Mike , its WC , the world gets it :)
The New York Times' reporter seems to concur:

Commentators on Fox Sports are atrocious! [emoji19][emoji34]
Kind of ruining it for me...
Is there always a Schmeichel in goal for Denmark?
Yes. Kasper, Peter Schmeichel's son.
Impressive performance from Mexico today. Germany might as well have mailed in the first half, and in general did not look like the German team one would expect in the World Cup, but IMO that doesn't take anything away from Mexico, who looked much more patient and confident than most Mexico teams of the past 20 years.
Liked the Mexicans too, very agile. A deserved win IMHO. Die Mannschaft looked like if every move would have been painful.

Exactly; I play my favorite music when watching sports. ...Soccer, hockey, football, golf, tennis, snooker, bowling, swimming, tour de France, Indy 500, FIFA, Olympics, surfing, skiing, parasailing, ...
I really hope the Swiss are not allowed to continue to foul without the threat of a yellow card in games going forward.
Yellow cards are not supposed to reflect the frequency of fouls, but (like red cards) the type of foul. I only saw about half the Brazil/Suisse game but didn’t see much I would call yellow card fouls. JMO of course.
Neymar cried /yelled every time he was fouled like his leg was snapped in half. That's why very few got called. It's bad for the game imho.
Viva Espanya, VIVA!
Neither game so far today has been entertaining. Let's see how this last one goes.
3, 1-0 games I see. Soccer jokes in all the US offices today I'm sure.
I’ve watched a few matches. Today’s match up between Croatia and Argentina was quite an embarrassment for the southern American country. All credit goes to Croatia. Argentina has a lot of individual talent but they did not play like a team.
That new IT digital system with camera rewinds forces referees to do calls that they normally wouldn't. That exact system undermines the referees. You have never ever seen so many penalties in a worldcup and this is only the group stage.. Why even have referees when this new system interupts the game several times per match. The side referees are not even calling off-sides anymore. They basicly have no function.
What a disgrace
It could also mean that defenders go away with murder for decades due to ref not being up to the challenge. The England captain was ful contact wrestled to the ground and BOTH the refs and VAR missed it! THAT was a disgrace, as the whole world saw it on the replay.
Belgium played a terrific match and qualified for the 1/8th finals. :congrats:
