Tannoy reintroduces it's Legacy speaker series

These should be interesting. Looks like they will be made in the UK as well.....

Re: Tannoy reintroduces it's Legacy speaker series
Awesome! Thank you for the post.
Does anyone know if the GRF90 uses Alnico for the magnets? Any idea at what point in the line, they don't offer Alnico in their speakers?

Kensington and up use the Alnico's.
-
Re: Tannoy reintroduces it's Legacy speaker series
And yes, the GRF has Alnico's as well.
-
Re: Tannoy reintroduces it's Legacy speaker series
And.....the Definition DC10A has them as well.

Speaking of English classics, do you still have your Spendor BC IIIs?

Maybe you need to add another pair to your Harbeth "stable." Would go well with the NAF amps.:celebrate008_2:

Re: Tannoy reintroduces it's Legacy speaker series
First thoughts on the Legacy Series --
http://hifipig.com/tannoy-a-private-...gacy-speakers/
Seems quite positive.
-
Re: Tannoy reintroduces it's Legacy speaker series
Wow! Here's a quote from one of the paragraphs. :)
"To my ears these are a nicer sounding speaker than the Prestige GRFs (sorry Tannoy) and their studio heritage screams out. I was particularly impressed when the high frequency output was upped a little and the speakers opened out and felt much more expansive."
-
Re: Tannoy reintroduces it's Legacy speaker series
Yep....I noticed that as well. If this is really the case, then we should be in for a real treat when these speakers are rolled out.
-
Re: Tannoy reintroduces it's Legacy speaker series
Does anyone know how much these speakers cost aprox?
Never heard the upper range Tannoy speaker, but I'm very curious. I've heard the DC8 and was not impressed. It was a long time ago. Back then I prefer the Totem mani2 which were the same price.
-
Re: Tannoy reintroduces it's Legacy speaker series
With all the Tannoy talk among friends and one who just bought the Cantebury (for the second time), I have to admit that I am once again Tannoy-curious. Oh brother. Of course, this thread hasn't helped. :)

Art,
How important do you feel the ST-200 Supertweeter is to the overall sound of the Tannoy speakers?
-
Re: Tannoy reintroduces it's Legacy speaker series
Joe, I loved my Westies without the ST-200 but find they add air, space and dimension that to me is a plus to the overall. I know others who prefer without but my experience is positive.
-
Re: Tannoy reintroduces it's Legacy speaker series
Thank you, I've heard similar opinions.

As you have probably seen, you will find wildly varying opinions on this....but I think Art sums it up perfectly. Really, they do make a nice difference, but the speakers are essentially so good, that you are not missing anything/much without them.
-
Re: Tannoy reintroduces it's Legacy speaker series
Thanks Taylor. I've been obsessing a little about the Cantebury GR lately. I'd love the Westies but they are too big and heavy for me. I love Alnico drivers.

Re: Tannoy reintroduces it's Legacy speaker series
I'm sure those are wonderful too. But a quote from the above introduction of the new speakers has me thinking. AND, they are probably less expensive too. I think there were the Ardens.

Haven't seen any pricing mentioned but you would think the difference in the cabinets themselves would make up a great deal of the price even if the internals were the same for the most part. Those Prestige series cabinets would be very expensive to build and then ship. Well worth a listen if you kind find a dealer close before you buy blind. Might be a while before they show up outside of the EU anyway.
-
Re: Tannoy reintroduces it's Legacy speaker series
Thank you Jack. I can't buy blind and do plan on hearing them. If I do anything, it will not be until the end of the year, at the earliest. My JBLs are awesome and I've been playing Amos Lee, among others today and absolutely loving the sound. My MXR-20's are killing it.

The Arden looks to be about the same size profile as your JBL's so at least the stands might be the same. Did you ever have time to contact the guys at A&M about stands for the JBL's?
-
Re: Tannoy reintroduces it's Legacy speaker series
They look nice but I am worried about the open, frame design. I'm trying to find out what dallasjustice used with his speakers.

Re: Tannoy reintroduces it's Legacy speaker series
Maybe it's an allusion but the A-1 looks like it has a mostly solid top. I would think you would use some sort of isolation device on the corners anyway. Aren't the Sound Anchors open frame too?

Tannoy reintroduces it's Legacy speaker series
I heard mixed result on super tweeter as well, I believe Jim Smith and Jeff Day used them and didn't like the result. So far I don't find I needed but I really do like the look of it . I guess I need to try on my set first :)

I don't recall seeing that room at the main Munich conference center. Several were offsite at hotels, like Viva.

Yes, you can check the prices here: www audioemotion co uk for example....
-
Re: Tannoy reintroduces it's Legacy speaker series
I really like the looks of these, but I can't get over how short they are. Wouldn't you want to put them on stands? Even the big ones?

Re: Tannoy reintroduces it's Legacy speaker series
got the eatons here , cracking speakers . the depth these things go to is incredible . put some floorstanders to shame . very clear , no fatigue and good value
