    Octave Black Box Preamp

The upgrade itch is always there. My pre amp, the Octave phono module has an optional Black Box black box. Does anyone here have any experience with this?

I have tried the SSB (Super Black Box) on a power amp. It's like the power amp gains a few more horsepower. But I have no idea what it would do for a pre amp. Can someone shine a light on this?

Upgrading the power supply almost always has a positive effect , especially on digital and preamps .

You're correct, and Octave makes some very fine-sounding components. I've met and had dinner with Andreas Hoffman of Octave, and personally, I think he makes some of the finest components on the market. Innovative and flexible designs, too.

Upgrading power supplies always has a positive effect, just as Stereogeek has mentioned. Just look at the approaches utilized by NAIM, Pass Labs, First Sound, etc, just to name a few.

Years ago I had a PS Audio Lambda transport and a custom d/a converter ( I will go into that some other time ). I had the transport modded with a pretty large outboard power supply . The results were stunning , more and tighter bass , bigger sound stage , more extended and smoother highs , etc . I tried upgrading my front end a few times over the years but for almost 10 years that front end was king . Just upgrading the power supply ( cost was only $400 or so ) was like night and day . Go for it .

Yes, I not aware of any upgrades to power supplies that have not been fruitful in return. Add D’Agostino, Brinkmann and more
