Misho Myronov tube wooden preamp!

Paul and I have to be honest Misho, after trying many different pieces of gear and being disappointed, we always come back home to your Wooden combo. Ultimate satisfaction.

Yes, I love more everyday. I will love them more tomorrow. Perfect with Avantgarde speakers.

Okay, that was posted by Paul. I’ll try and have him repost it.

Thank you dear Etor!

Tube rolling is a big fun, and despite the fact that my amps are using not very common tubes, there are still be a place for it.

Rectifier can be ez80 or ez81, there are wide selection of the makers.
Only three C3m makers as far as I'm aware of - Siemens, Telefunken and Lorenz.

Do you know... is the C3m tube also developed as telephone repeater like C3g? I am seeing these in more gear (Ypsilon uses C3g in their phono stage, also CS Port uses in phono and linestage) so there must be something special about these old telephone repeater tubes that makes them terrific in audio gear.

Can only certain members see this video? I'm a member and I am signed in, yet I'm unable to see the video...

I watched the video with no issues on my iPad.

Like Joe I have a similar but down reved version his his speakers and pre amp, Duo Mezzos and CJ Gat 1.

I’m using AN UK 300 Shinri monos. Only 8 watts but really extraordinary performance. I replaced a 50 watt Nagra VPAs and got lower noise level, better mids and similar resolution in the highs. I upgraded the 300 b power tubes to Audionotes special $800 pair which is a noticeable improvement.

The high gain Nagra and high gain CJ GAT might not be the best combo.
The wooden pre is really interesting to see if it would lower the noise level. Might be a better use of 5K than upgrading my CJ to rev 2

Gain on the GAT is 26db and gain on my Misho Wooden preamp is under 8db, I think possibly even 6db. I’ll see if I can find out the exact number. It’s dead quiet on my horns. My GAT2 is almost unusable with anything other than my SIT3 (gain of 10.5dB) on my Avantgarde.

Somehow the video was in private mode. I just changed it for you to see it. :)[/QUO

Dang Paul! Thanks for getting it changed. The video of that system with the Misho Myronov tube wooden preamp and the Avantgarde speakers sounded absolutely incredible even through the speakers in my laptop. I could only imagine what it would sound like in-person! I'd love to hear what that Misho Myronov tube wooden preamp would sound like in my system or a system I'm intimately familiar with.

I believe the Don Sachs custom preamp I purchased is something special, it really is! Especially when the Don Sachs custom preamp/T+A Elektroakustik AMP 8 --{which I purchased from our fellow shark Randy Meyers -- thanks Randy you did me a solid on our deal}--- combo is used together, that's when the magic happens.

Up until a few months ago, I was using an $18K --{I only mention the price so you understand the comparison I'm making}-- 135 lbs, 40W/ch, Mastersound Reference 845, SET amp and believe-it-or-not, the Don Sachs custom preamp/T+A Elektroakustik AMP 8 combo gives that SET a serious run-for-the-money! But I digress...

Joe, you're a very lucky fellow to own that Misho Myronov tube wooden preamp, because it has to be really special to be able to produce a sound that even when played through my laptop speakers, sounds as good as it does! I had never even heard of the brand and you already have two pieces in your system? Congrats to my fellow shark on such a fine acquisition for your audio system. You must be very happy with what you're now hearing...

Thank you Tom for your kind words. I would never have known about Misho if it wasn’t for Paul. He’s gotten me in a lot of trouble lately :) in regards to gear. The Misho combo really is awesome.

joe -- have you ever paired the misho wooden pre-amp with the sit-3 in your system? on paper at least, i would think that might be a dynamite combination.

I have. Paul was concerned about that combo not having enough gain. It has plenty enough gain and drove the Avantgarde exceedingly well. I’d be hesitant to use that combo on much less efficient speakers. I think high 90’s and above is perfect.

thanks! was just wondering how the [C3m] tube in the pre-amp played with a (low powered) SS amp -- seems like the potential to have best of both worlds, if that's even possible in this hobby.

;):)

It seems like a wonderful tube. I just looked it up, Misho preamp has 6db of gain. The C3g and C3m are not interchangeable. Inserting the C3g tube into the C3m circuit will blow the tube as the voltage is different.

Follow that link, it’s not empty, it talks about these tubes.

sorry joe -- typo on my part. i intended C3m [corrected in my post]. supposed to be an ultra quiet and linear tube.

not to get off track, but yamamoto soundcraft use the C3m in some of their power amps. however, he takes off the external metal case which exposes the glass tube.

[edit: ha! just read the linked article... reference to yamamoto taking off the metal case]

Wow, very cool. I didn’t realize the tubes looked like that. Thanks.
