It's especially painful because I won't be able to have a prolonged listen for a few weeks.

As for the tube breaking in - so it will be adviceable to let it play for some period of time before comparing.
But Mullards are nice ones, really
Unfortunately my stocks of EZ80 Mullard is running out, usingbit in both line pre amp and riaa pre amp, and facing the usual problem of the amp maker, using vintage parts - stocks are limited

Re: Misho Myronov tube wooden preamp!

The only rule while doing tube rolling in every Wooden Amp - pre or power, always turn it off first, and let it discharge for a few minutes.
Since all the stages is transformer loaded - temoving the tube while under high voltage it can create a high voltage spark on a primary (same as in high voltage coil in a car), and damage the transformer.
So, just turn it off and wait few minutes.

I agree. Simple, effective and they do the job they were designed to do without a waste of unnecessary materials for show. Like the electronics from an earlier era.

Good stuff. Everyone who's seen the Wooden Preamp has been impressed by the build quality. I spoke to Misho about isolation footers before receiving mine, and he dissuaded me from the need to try them. Based on the solid wood enclosures, he didn't feel there'd be a need for them. I have to admit he is right. I've tried Isoacoustic Bronzes, Indigo, and Stacore (roller footers) to no avail. So far, I'm sticking with the ebony feet that came stock with the preamp.

One recomendation for using WoodenPre amp - avoid using unshielded RCA cables for connecting with the sources.

But unshielded RCA cables can be used for connecting wooden pre and wooden amp.

Hi Jarek. I used the roller footers from a Lampizator GG 2.0. Hopefully I wasn't mistaken in thinking they were Stacore supplied to Lampizator.

On a separate note, I'll encourage preamp users to try to score a pair of Telefunken C3Ms. They're less lean and more dimensional compared to the Siemens and I actually prefer them.

Re: Misho Myronov tube wooden preamp!

For all who are thinking about purchasing this wonderful preamp, I highly recommend pairing it with an RFT EZ81 (not EZ80) and Telefunken C3M tubes. The impact of these two upgrades made an already outstanding preamp, great, in my book. The RFT EZ81 can be had for ~$30, and the Telefunkens can be had for ~90/pair.

Re: Misho Myronov tube wooden preamp!

    Thank you dear Etor!

Tube rolling is a big fun, and despite the fact that my amps are using not very common tubes, there are still be a place for it.

Rectifier can be ez80 or ez81, there are wide selection of the makers.
Only three C3m makers as far as I'm aware of - Siemens, Telefunken and Lorenz.

Only three C3m makers as far as I'm aware of - Siemens, Telefunken and Lorenz.
Thanks, Misho. I didn't mean to insinuate that the preamp doesn't accept EZ80s, rather that the RFT EZ81 is significantly preferred over the RFT EZ80 in my system. I used bad wording there.

I'm yet to try a Lorenz C3M - I need to get my hands on a pair.

Oh, I'm absolutely sure that you love the Wooden Pre with its stock tubes, and I do know and understand that tube rolling is a very fun process, and often can help to ajust the overal sound to very best.
As a builder I'm using the best posdible tubes I can obtain in quantities, so I'm leaving the fun of tube rolling to my friends - the Wooden Amp users

Re: Misho Myronov tube wooden preamp!

Received a stock of Telefunken C3Ms yesterday. Wanted some spares, and also wanted to see if the non-engraved logo versions (supposedly from a different time period) sound different than the engraved ones I already have.

It will be interesting to hear about sound difference!
Also, the different year of production, or plant the tubes were made on can affect the sound dramatically.
In case of such a special tubes as C3m or C3g the differencies should not be huge, but...

From what I understand, C3g should NOT be used. The voltage requirement is different and it will burn up in the preamp designed for the C3m.

Absolutely correct! This is a different tubes, despite being quite close.
Different filament voltage - C3m has unusual 20V filament (heater), and C3g has more typical 6.3V filament.
C3m and C3g has more differencies, including pinout.
