Super Quiet Noise Floor
I was complaining on other forums of my noise issues at my house. For years I blamed my home. Come to find a lot of my issues were my amps. I bought new amps and that made a significant impact. I still had some hum. Not heard at the chair any more. Not unless it was super quiet and I sat and intently listened for it at its worst times. This is way better than it had been, but louder than I wanted.
Ultrafast and I had just done some work at his house. He told me to run a second circuit dedicated to my amps only. I did as such and what do you know. 2 circuits in my system are better than one. Again my noise floor dropped quite a bit. Now that only hum I heard was when I was right up at a speaker. I could no longer hear anything at my chair. Take away here. Don't listen to anyone tell you how many circuits are best for audio. My belief is your system will tell you. We each have a very unique setup, and unique home environment. What works for one, may not work for another.
Ultrafast also utilized a few Environmental Potential EP2050. They are a surge suppressor and also suppose to get rid of noise. You can find info on the web and read if interested. Anyhow, I have had it in for 3 days now. I have to put my ear to my speakers to hear any noise now. My system is the quietest it has ever been. It is such a relief to not have an incessant hum heard at my chair. I now get a little unnerved that try as I may to hear hum at my speaker I almost cant. The quality of the input tube actually has more impact on noise now than anything else in my setup.

Re: Super Quiet Noise Floor
KingRex - we are checking boxes, doing things right, it’s working!
I’m excited to hear these improvements!
No doubt Rex has a solid electrical foundation, with proper grounding and now all electrical will benefit by adding Environmental Potentials EP 2050, waveform corrector and surge protector.
This is so good, we are starting a Company!

I have never had any noise issues with my system. Either with a single AC circuit, or the current three circuits. Glad you are making progress as noise drives me crazy. I moved my refrigerator into the garage to get rid of that noise.

Super Quiet Noise Floor
Try a pair of nord nc500 mono amps or other class d types just to get a baseline for low noise. You may despise class D but at least it'll get you an idea of how quiet things can be.

Re: Super Quiet Noise Floor
Well if you could hear hum or hiss at the listening chair you clearly had quite a few problems. Glad you're figuring it out.

Re: Super Quiet Noise Floor
PM Ed about work. I hope Mike does not get upset here. Ed needs to figure out how to get the business info out without breaking forum rules.
I did put a class D amp in my system. That is part of how I determined a piece of my noise issues was amplifier related. After I got more quiet amps, adding the second circuit definatly cut more noise. The EP2050 has keep remaining noise very low since installing it.
Watch for a new post by Ultrafast. He did some more ground work and is very happy.

Re: Super Quiet Noise Floor
Ed and I are now Audio-ultra.com
We have leaned so much about noise. We are looking at scopes now to more quickly isolate problem appliances. And to push utilities to replace failing infastructure when necessary
Both our systems are very quiet. The more we grow, the more we are seeing. And what we see is most noise is from in your home and from poor wiring. If your home is addressed properly, most of the complaining about dirty utility power is filtered away. That was a pun.

Re: Super Quiet Noise Floor
I see you seem to like Square D Panels from reading your other posts. I was wondering if it would be more ideal to have a competitors brand panel that has copper & silver flashed bus bars instead of a standard Square D panel?
Thanks

With a added surge and filter in the electrical panel as you have discussed on other posts?

Re: Super Quiet Noise Floor
Hello Humble.
First, I am no longer affiliated with AudioUltra. I continue to operate as Kingrex Electric.
I like Square D QO for a readily available, affordable product that performs well for the money. SqD like Eaton, Siemens and GE are all mixed metal bus or tin over copper bus on the phase. The neutrals and grounds are all mixed metal.
SqD, Eaton, Siemens etc all offer a more industrial line of panel boards that have silver flashed over copper on the phases. The neutral and ground are usually still a mixed metal. And your still only getting a entry level circuitbreaker.
I have developed a line of premium panelboard for audio and video use. They are all made in the USA in southern california. They are all UL listed and labeled. As well as designes to NEC NFPA70 specifications for the intent of their use. These panels are based upon a Eaton bus. They are all copper phase, neutral and ground. They are either plain copper or silver flashed copper. They are all bolt on breakers. All breakers are industrial QB AFCI or GH frame. They are far better than any panel you will get from a distribution supply house. I support all my panel with detailed instructions and on the phone consultations with your electrician to ensure they are installing them in a very specific manner that improves performance.
PM me if you want more details.

Re: Super Quiet Noise Floor
Ok, I have gone around and around on this with Square D and Eaton. The only 2 manufacturer I would use for a panel. You can not get a 14.5" wide panel that will have a copper neutral and ground. The phase bus is copper. The neutral and ground are aluminum alloy. I can't even get my panel shops to swap out the neutral and ground as you void the UL.
If you are willing to have a 20" unit on the wall, I can spec a industrial panel that does have copper phase, neutral and grounds. So surface mount panels can be obtained with all copper. Or, your opening the wall and modifying the studs to accept a wider industrial panel.
If your in an existing space and want a flush mount 14.5" wide panel to fit in standard stud bays, I have to have a custom panel made. The custom panels I have made are better than the stock industrial panels that are 20" wide as I have heavier bus and other options. I don't have to have the bus coated with silver. I can use bare copper. I have always liked the sound of copper. I don't like receptacles as there are a bunch of dissimilar metals coming together. Same as in a panel board. I want to keep it simple. Copper on copper. If you want other coating such as gold over copper bus, I can do that also. But your getting into a very expensive panel.

I upgraded the power supply on my Gigafoil v4 to a Weiss PSU 102. It’s very nice step up. But with the new model, you’re looking at $2000 before even investing in a SOTA linear power supply.
