Pass XA30.8 Review

I spoke with some trusted audiophiles / dealers who told me the Luxman M800A is the best class A amp out there - better than Pass and Accuphase and even many tube amps. This from dealers who carry or have carried all of them. So I bought two M800 amps and they are the first amps that compete and surpass my modified Marantz monos with my Maggies. There is so much current that dynamics are beyond belief, and there is so much spaciousness I think they are tubes.

M800A seems to be very well built. Would love to hear them. The only issue in this thread is M800A is almost 3 times the price of XA30.8.

Darrin,

I had an opportunity a few years ago to get a pair of the M800A's. I still think about them today. If I wasn't so happy now, I'd listen to you and get them. They must be superb because I know you have great taste.

The M800As are excellent. Heard them a number of times. Congrats Darrin.

I tried one in stereo and then the pair bridged. One in stereo drove my Maggies just fine. On par (with more warmth) than my reference Marantz MA9s2 modified monos. Stepping up to bridged mono increases macro and micro dynamics, almost like "charging the air" in the room with energy, and made the transients faster attack without hurting PRAT, and made soundstage wider and taller and deeper. Then I connected them to isotek super Titan power conditioner and holy cow the amps really came alive ... Start and stop on a dime. Transparency increased so smallest notes can be heard, and layering and space increased drastically. I guess these amps love clean current and power.
