Dual Mono AmpCamp Amps by Nelson

I (finally) finished my other AmpCamp amp yesterday. Took me most of the day, but I am very careful and meticulous with my build.

Have to say that as good as the little AmpCamp amp is; it really sings as a pair of bridged mono blocks!

Quite impressive, especially when you consider each amp cost all of $327 plus about $35 in premium parts.

More later, but I am really enjoying these "big" little amps!

(apologies for the cheesy iPhone 6S pic...I'll fix that later)

Hi Puma Cat, what "Preimum Parts" did you add for $35? Also, what is the efficiency of speakers you are using with these amps?

    Thanks,
    Duke

    Hi Duke,
The premium parts were specified by a very experienced DIY Audio builder (and I think a professional EE) in the Pass Labs forum. DIYAudio.

They were a swap for the original Elna caps to Nichicon aluminum organic polymer caps, and subsituting a 4700 uF Nichicon Gold Tune cap for C1 in place of a 3300 Elna electroylic and also some resistor value changes. Also the new R12 was bypassed with a silver mica cap to smooth out the high end. Parts for each amp cost about $17. If you want a detailed list and rationale, just PM me and I will send a link to the ACA build with premium parts.

Thanks, Mike! Yeah, it was a fun project. The basic amp sounds very good, but these really sing quite impressively as bridged monoblocks. They are only held back by the laptop-style 24V 5A SMPS in terms of top end, air, and extension. But other than that, they are very impressive.
