I would love to hear a full Naim setup sometime. A taste from my Supernait 2 is pretty awesome. I can only imagine what the 500 series setup would sound like.

With Naim's one day sale a month or so ago, I bought a ND555 and 552 preamp. Just got them last week and installed them this last weekend. Out of the box, they sound pretty amazing. Can't wait to get a few weeks break in on them. Sounding great on the Magico M2s.

Let's see -- you could go to AXPONA 2020 outside of Chicago. Or there are a few dealers with Naim setups in listening rooms. My dealer who also is outside of Chicago, for one. And somewhere in NYC??

ND555/500DR power supply also got an absolute rave review in HiFi Critic by Martin Colloms. I think the review is on Naim's website. One of the highest rated DACs ever. Martin uses Magico S5 MKII.

    Re: Naim nd555

I went back to Naim recently and that included replacing a Lumin X1 with Naim ND555/555PS. I felt the X1 was better than the Aurender N10/Chord Dave it replaced. It's difficult to say how much impact the Naim streamer/DAC has in my system because I've changed so much of it but I believe it's really special and I'd recommend it over the X1. Certainly in a Naim system it's a no brainer.

I only wish I were anywhere near ready to make that kind of investment. I promised Mike that I’d come down and visit. I’ll see what happens next year. I know Tom had a great time listening to all his toys.

    Re: Naim nd555

never cared about naim so far.....but now i am looking at the nd555.

either this one or the t&a sd3100hv.
anyone knows the two and can compare? about same level?
or another dac-streamer that is even better?

    Re: Naim nd555

A friend of mine bought 2 month ago the nd555. In his ears the Naim, topped the Ayre Qx 5 about length.

Pre and power are Luxman tube gear.

I love mine (nd555). I have no real experience with the T&A so I have no way to compare. So not much help I'm afraid.

well, i see you are the double double 555!!
did you ever try to run it with just one ps?

the offer i have is to pay the 555 and get 1 ps for free. so i am wondering about a second ps as well.

    Re: Naim nd555

    Yes

When Naim had their 1 day sale about a year ago - I got 2 ND555 and 2 power supplies. One for each of my systems. So it was easy to play back and forth with 1 and 2 PS's.

Is it a hugh difference - no. But to me it was definitely a good improvement. So when money allowed - I bought another 2 PS's.

I had used a NDS w 2 PS's before but when Lumin started with their A1, it was 90-95% of the NDS and basically 1/10 the price. So I decided to sell the Naim while I could still get a great resale for it and go with the Lumin. I tried various Dac/streamers and always felt it was a sideways move but never really better than the NDS.

When Naim came out with the ND555 - knowing how picky they were and taking 10-15 years to get something they felt deserved the 500 series name. I knew I wanted to try one. Their one day sale last year gave me the push to do it. Man am I glad.

    Re: Naim nd555

I don't remember exactly and it varied depending on the item - but seems like it was 25% ish.

Mostly it just gave me the little push to buy - in my mind, I was already sold

I published here, but it went over like a lead balloon. We also blasted it out in our newsletter. Only Jock took advantage. They usually do the one day sale in September. Early September. But sometimes they skip a year, so it’s hard to plan for.

    Re: Naim nd555

Everything I've read about the second PS for the ND555 is that there's definitely an improvement; it comes down to the language people use to describe it. I've got 2 stacks of 4 Fraim levels each (base is medium, plus 3 std); they are all full. It's a good excuse NOT to add the 2nd ps; the stack(s) are bigger than I ever intended!
