MANY People collect guitars without playing them. They usually go in display cases that either hang on the wall OR stand up in Display cubes. Half of my collection was either One-Off Gibson Customs (Only 1 made) or limited editions like the Old Hickory above (180 made from a 200+ Year Old Hickory Tree that fell at Andrew Jacksons Plantation) or the Gibson Custom Flying V above (40 made). You'll kiss more than Half your investment away putting a mark on it.

1980 vintage can be had at that price. Once you play one, you don't care what they cost.

Re: Post Your past and present Guitar photos
We did a Beatles Tribute gig last Saturday night.
Big crowd and was a lot of fun!!
These are a couple of guitars I used - Rickenbacker 381V69 and Taylor Fall Limited Koa.
Also used my trusty Rickenbacker 1993Plus 12-string for a lot of those George Harrison riffs!

Koa is such a beautiful wood! Nice crisp sound I bet!
I always wanted a 12 string Ricky in my electric days but opportunity never struck.

I picked up my buddies 12 string acoustic - what a difference over a 6 string, barely got it together for a first time trying.

Re: Post Your past and present Guitar photos
Just picked this up. It is much better than it has a right to be. I switched back and forth between the carbon fiber and my exotic wood guitars and did not find the CF instrument to be wanting as much as I thought it would. The company is called Emerald and they do an amazing job. The entire instrument including the neck is carbon fiber except for a thin cocobolo veneer on the soundboard. Saddle and nut are bone.

The bridge has a radical slant. How is it intonated?
Fretboard looks slanted also.
Its a masterpiece for sure.

I picked this baby up when I was going thru my bASS poser days! I got a greater admiration for them when I tried to learn playing it.
It lasted maybe 3 months before I gave up!

Re: Post Your past and present Guitar photos
Larry,
The two different scale lengths for treble/bass use two different formulas to calculate fret location. The slanted frets account for that. if you google Fan Fret guitars you'll get plenty of technical data to geek out over. In concept the purpose is to keep the basses crisp when the string tension is lowered for alternate tunings and not have an effect on trebles which like shorter scale lengths.

There she is: The Micawber, long time coming. My custom made beauty.
Gibson PAF at the neck, Mojotone Broadcaster at the bridge, custom made brass bridge (in Texas), Sperzel locking tuners. Just as Kef has it done.
Sounds really great.

This one is up for sale. Beautiful tone. I purchased a larger body version from the same Luthier and have to let this one go.

Obviously you guys are real players, I am not... I have always wanted to play so I decided I am gonna do it, at 63 :). I recently picked up my first guitar, an Fender American Performer Telecaster Hum... Having fun learning. I plan on sticking with it mainly as a personal challenge, personal goal.

I picked up a Strat to go with my Tele... These two are what I am using to teach myself :)...
Telecaster is an American Performer HUM
Stratocaster is an American Professional II HSS
I am using a Fender Mustang LT amplifier and a Fender Mustang Micro headphone amplifier to go portable (practice out on the back patio, etc.).
