Guitar suggestions for a newbie...

Hard to beat a Strat as far as electrics to my ear.
Or a good Martin dreadnought acoustic.
I still believe for a first guitar a good nylon string acoustic is the best beginning guitar you can buy. Easy on your fingers, cleaner and easy to fret because of the wider board.
Im down to 2 guitars from a high of over 25. My last 2 standing is my Martin HD28 custom and a Spanish/Italian classical guitar. They both have tone to die for.
I still love pawn shopping for classical guitars. Lots of the early Japanese made Yamaha guitars are gems. I picked up an early nippongakki model for my son for 100 bucks and it could rival my best classical in tone.

Wow, so “guitarnut” is pretty on-brand, huh? :D
