Re: What are you listening to tonight ?
Simply jaw dropping album!
I want you guys to do something for me.
I want you to look up Kate Havnevik, click on her "You" album (it's on Qobuz only unfortunately) and go to track 11 (the last track) called "Tears In Rain". Play it at whatever volume you want and preferably with your eyes closed.
It's 4 AM here and I'm playing it at an average volume of around 56 dB, with peaks up around 63 dB. There's a steel drum played by hands and what sounds like a ball bouncing on it that gets very deep and very wide sounding, something that sounds like a pan flute (very woody and wispy sounding), some weird saxophone sounding thing, very clean, very light, very delicate bells, a piano, and Kate's voice smack in the middle, about a foot above and behind the speakers.
The entire album is excellent, but I have replayed this last track probably a dozen times in a row now. It's sending chills down my spine every time! I even have goosebumps!
As I said, the bells are very quiet and delicate, but also very clear and airy. The steel drum, you can actually "feel" the flesh of their fingers tapping on the steel. Even when the ball or whatever is bouncing on the steel drum, it's very tactile. Kate's voice and that pan flute, it's almost as if you can lean forward, reach out and touch them. They seem to occupy the same space, with the steel drum just behind her.
Please, give it a listen and tell me what you hear and what you think. It's been a long time since I've heard a new-ish album sound this good and with good music to go with it.

Re: What are you listening to tonight ?
That particular one is a remix album. In Roon, it only shows "You" in only Qobuz. I also just opened up my Tidal app, and it only showed I think 5 albums, one of which is that remix album. I'm currently listening to her latest one "&I", and it seems to be pretty good as well. Still an excellent quality recording.

First time playing this with the Luxman-Dynaudio combo. Jon Camp's Rickenbacker Tone on Ashes Are Burning is spot on. (I had a Rick for years) Annie lives about 20 minutes away from me.

the senses reign, and reason is dead: giovani antonini + il giadino armonico | la morte della ragione ...somehow this just seemed appropriate today.
actually, a really enjoyable album, almost jazz-like in a way. very well recorded, it is easy to just sit back and enjoy this one. also, the digital booklet that comes with the download is decidedly one of the best i have seen. the art chosen from the period included with the text is "inspired".
as the review added from roon metadata says: "the intricate graphics for this release, featuring quotations from aristotle to giles deleuze, make you wonder if your background in philosophy is sufficient to listen, but have no fear: the music is delightful, often revelatory, and even fun..."

Re: What are you listening to tonight ?
first among the great live music experiences is hearing an organ inside an old stone church -- the immersive sound, tonality, volume and reverb / vibration is something quite unique, as much felt as heard... sort of like the organ and structure combine into a single instrument.
unfortunately, this experience does not translate well through recorded music which to me is always flat and lifeless...
this recording, however, bridges that gap more than any i have heard. for those with systems having a big / immersive sound, you might give this one a try... at an appropriate volume level of course: lorenzo ghielmi + ensemble biscantores | a late medieval mass on the rysum organ
the rysum organ and kirche are pretty much as they were back in the mid 1400s when it was built which might account for the success of this recording effort.
