inspired by the bakersfield material in ken burns' country music to quque up: disc 2 | berkeley to bakersfield | cracker

a two disc release with the first disc, berkeley, being a basic guitar rock commentary on contemporary life in SF -- not much at all to see here.

the second disc, bakersfield, is the money disc imo... fantastic bakerfield style county musicianship on songs with typical country music themes. the track almond grove just tears me up -- david lowery was certainly channeling some townes van zandt when writing this song.

Mike Stern - 11

I read his bio and can't believe I just heard of him thumbing through Jazz on Tidal. Most of his albums are a who is who of Jazz or guitar. Stern is a grammy nominated Jazz guitarist and named one of the best 75 guitarists of the year in 93 and one other year.

So I then listned to Big Neighborhood driven by the fact Steve Vey appears on the album. I liked this album better and the sound is better, despite 11 being on concord.

Next is Eclectic with Eric Johnson.

He tripped and fell breaking both arms during his career, he had nerve damage and 9 pins inserted. He was still determined to play. He used a Velcro glove with the pick attached. He had another operation that allowed him to gain more of his technic back.

You just never know, what you don't know, LOL

I forgot to mention Stern played 3 years with Blood Sweat & Tears, with Billy Cobham and for Miles Davis. He did some stuff with Jaco as well, amongst others.

I think of her music as Progressive Jazz, you have to listen to a track all the way through at least once to be sure not to miss something. My favorite album is Modern Cool, a nice cover of Light My Fire and She's A Lady. The very last track is a version of Let It Rain with a full choir. I also like the album Smash which is my next favorite.
