Re: What Vinyl Do You Have On The Table?

Myles talked up this LP last week. I have learned to listen to Myles when he is high on an album as he has never steered me wrong. I ordered this from Elusive Disc last week online because the store was closed. Something went wrong with my online order because I should have had the LP last week. I called up Elusive Disc yesterday and confirmed they didn't receive my online order. It just arrived a few minutes ago and will be on the table later tonight.

Not the recently released 45rpm version. Anyone have both versions and can speak to a comparo? This 33 1/3 sounds pretty darn good to me!

Which album Chris? Got the Robert Plant from Audiophile USA and the Ali & Toumani LP I got from Amazon. Was surprised to see it, wasn't looking for it, but it popped up in one of my searches so purchased it right away from a reseller. Both great albums.

No issues. Other than a tad excess bass on side 2 (which can easily be room induced as well), sounds fine to me. What are you hearing?

Way too much bass. It's overblown. I never play the LP anymore because it drives me to distraction. I don't know what speakers and/or subs you have so maybe you aren't hearing everything they laid down.

The Toure LP was what i was wondering. I'll have a look on amazon for the vinyl.

Have Magico S5s. Nothing I would consider overly ripe. Was listening to Janis Ian Breaking Silence last night and thought that had bloated bass (but good album otherwise), but not this LP.

Herbie Hancock - Inventions and Dimensions ST-84147 BlueNote LE Resissue 45 RPM

Side A is particularly frustrating. Remember that MBL commercial when the conductor breaks his stick?

Well, that pulsating percussion the Guiro, that gourd like instrument, has too much emphasis and resolution in the left channel and it DRIVES ME NUTS!

IMO, the best album of the 1990's.

Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dreams. 2011 lp reissue - excellent clean sound, although I do prefer the original US pressings

Is River of Sorrow on LP a reissue? Think have had it for a while.

This is my favorite FIM album. The SACD, XRCD and especially the LP are really excellent. The LP also comes with a few songs such as "Duck Quacking" cut at 45 rpm that are really reference quality.

Wu Mann plays with Martin Smith on the Water Lily Music For The Motherless Child. Heard her last year playing at Carnegie with The Kronos Quartet and Kavi really captured the sound of her instrument on this recording. Wish it was on vinyl but they'd be hard pressed to sell 100 copies. Plus Kavi sold his Tim de designed machine and not sure the original master tape can be played back on any other machine.

Adam Cohen - Leonard's son, great recording and great songs. Chip off the old block.

Blonde Redhead - Another good recording, modern alternative, very spacious soundstage

Myles, I'll be attending a the Silk Road Ensemble's concert at Avery Fisher Hall in Feb. I hope Wu Man is part of the ensemble (she typically is on their recordings). I simply just fell in love with the sound of the Pipa last year.
