Occasionally you come across and album that you cannot believe how good it sounds (remastered).

I stumbled on this on Tidal Max, and even though I’m a QoBuz guy, whatever tidal has done for this particular album, sounds better than QoBuz, CD, etc.

If you have Tidal Max, check it out. You might be as surprised as I was. It sounds new, fresh, dynamic with great energy and air.

Tidal seems to be quietly stepping up their game. There has been a lot of high res MQA new releases hit every week.

It does come down to the master though, I have some 44.1k albums that sound better than some of those released in high res. One of my best sounding albums on Tidal is 44.1k, check out Pacifica by The Vampires. On West Mass the textural information is outstanding especially on what I think is a clarinet, the sound is low though for a clarinet.

Great album , listening to it since 2019 , try some of the maple-shade stuff too , very little compression and mics great stuff ..!

Regards

Personally, I would change "I have some" some to "I have many," but that would be on Qobuz and not Tidal and their MQA sheep dip.

Is this the 24/192 version in which the first song has some chatter/crowd ambience before it starts which isn't there in the original release of the album?

Tidal Max. Just make sure it’s the Tidal Max (yellow logo).

I can't listen to Tidal because I dropped it long ago. I was asking if the version you are hearing is 24/192 and it has the crowd ambience before the first song that the original version doesn't.

Didn’t pay attention. The version won’t matter because the Tidal MAX beats the QoBuz by a lot. I have both. This Tidal MAX version is wow. Tidal has upped their game. They had to.

The remastered 24/192 version on Qobuz is horrible. At first it appears more dynamic, but it's really not. JB's voice is drowned out by reverb. The 16/44.1 version smokes the remastered 24/192 version.

Yes, that’s why I was shocked by the Max.
