    MSB DAC sources?

Just trying to understand what are the “software” options for MSB DACs.

From reading the website it looks like for the USB interface options and network renderer, it’s Jriver or Roon, is that correct? For the renderer, I assume maybe also Minimserver? Any others?

What are the software/control options for the ProISL interface?

    Re: MSB DAC sources?

Basically, Roon or anything that plugs into the USB module (Innuos, Aurender, Lumin, Auralic, etc.)

Same for the ProISL interface? Guess I am not understanding the difference between ProISL and ProUSB if so.

    Re: MSB DAC sources?

found this older thread with lots of good/interesting info on MSB interface build-outs:

    MSB Pro USB

    but....

still don't understand what source can be used for the ProISL interface, but it sure sounds interesting. It seems the same question existed back then! If nobody is sure I'll reach out to MSB tomorrow to ask.

    Re: MSB DAC sources?

To give you an example. I have both the ProUSB and Renderer modules. ProUSB is used with an Aurender N20 (standalone music server) and the Renderer module is used with a Roon server. I think the MSB Renderer module is considered an end point. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Thank you. Yes, I do get this bit of it now, the USB interface is pretty clear, and also now the ProUSB.

    Re: MSB DAC sources?

If one has the ProISL I am not sure what the Renderer adds (perhaps another control option)? The ProISL simply goes between the server's USB output and the MSB; it adds a level of isolation (optical rather than electrical connection) and MQA capability (you get that whether or not you ever want to use it). This also allows you to put the server anywhere in the house you want, and run any desired length of optical fiber to your system.

    Re: MSB DAC sources?

I can use the Renderer module when I want to use Roon with amazing metadata and the ProISL when I want to use the N20 for ultimate SQ. In audio you always need options.

If u are using the ProUSB input I was told to unplug the Renderer module

I think it also applies to the ProISL module

Supposedly Renderer is noisy compared to the fiber input

    Re: MSB DAC sources?

In my system Synergistic ethernet switch feeds the renderer-module. Before the switch I have optical isolation ( two Sonore optical modules with Uptone audio LPS). Before these I have my router ( with LPS ), and laptop as Roon core. Router, laptop and first optical module are not in the same powerline as other components. All ethernet-cables are nordost. In my opinion optical isolation is a must somewhere before the dac input.

Just using the MSB ProUSB to ProISL input modules will provide 100% optical and thus electrical isolation.

    Re: MSB DAC sources?

I used the ProUSB-ISL modules on my MSB Reference dac and has an Intel NUC11i5 mini PC running Roon Core server and player with Linux Ubuntu LTS OS. The ProUSB module and NUC are located in a closet far away from the audio system. A 25m optical fiber cable connects the ProUSB output to the ProISL input on the Reference dac. Recently I also have a few weeks of home trials of the Antipodes K50 and K22 server/player using their USB outputs to the ProUSB module. They all sound great to me, including the NUC11.
