    Formula One

Now that the gloves are off and Hamilton and Rosberg are pretty pissed off with each other after Monaco, things are looking very promising for an epic intra-team battle in Montreal next.

Pretty dark for my tastes, but it was entertaining. And apparently pretty true.

Things are getting back to normal here, I rally missed talking to you guys. I did plan to see Das Boot, but it was too long. So I settled with Run Silent, Run deep and had an interesting, but mild surprise. I have often compared Star Trek, especially Star Trek II, to a submarine movie. Well, RSRD's director was Robert Wise, who directed ST, The motion picture. Well at the beginning of BOTH movies, the first in command is put into a lessor position when the former commander comes back to the ship. it is handled very much the same in both movies. Fascinating to watch, wise did MUCH better in the first film, of course.

    Hi Bob

Yes I've seen Rush and Senna, as well as Grand Prix, all outstanding films. Thanks for the recommendation on Super Speedway, I'll have a look in local Amazon to see if it's available in region B, otherwise I'll buy a region A copy the next time I'm in the US.

    Re: What are you watching?

It is ironic and truly sad; while still watching 'D-Day | Code Name: Overlord', I cannot stop thinking to them all soldiers who sacrificed their lives for their country (the biggest honor of them all), and see how our governments (both Canadian and American and others) are treating our veterans.
...Some to the point of dishonoring them by fudging the numbers in order to get their financial bonuses!
Simply put (the truth) they kill them for money; by delaying their health needs, by cutting access to their moral and physical support. ...The very same people who sacrificed their lives to free them.

Now, you tell me if it ain't a disgrace or not.

    Re: What are you watching?

Bob, I try not to get into politics, but I must post and agree with so much. In the US this was going on since the Bush administration. They sent our troops to Afghanistan and Iraq and yet failed to enlarge the services that they would need when our troops came home. Further, Bush knew it and wrote a letter to Obama, since published in 2009, about the mess.

Did you know it is even worse than reported? The Medical part of the Military was given BILLIONS of dollars from both parties to improve their record keeping and were the Veterans Affair medical groups. Only they used totally different and incompatible systems (like PCs talking to Macs) to neither could transfer information to each other about patients needs and treatment. While they will in the US try to blame each other, there is enough blame to go around and these brave young men and woman, who have given so much, need our help NOW! And so do their families. This is beyond a disgrace, this is a crime against our own countries. And yes, Obama should have known.

    Re: What are you watching?

It's not politics, it's a social problem, a lack of real values in our societies. ...Simple as that Barry; money always takes priority over integrity.

I know that the VA system in the US has been (and still is) a major 'crack' for many many years. But in my own country we are no better; vets are killing themselves more and more because they don't have the health support that they need. And our government is cutting the budget in that department; to save money and invest it instead in the "sables bitumineux" in Alberta. ...Not killing only the vets but also the entire country; Canada!

I watch movies and documentaries all the time; every single day. ...Eventually something has to come up from it; that strikes some deep chords inside me.
This a human thing, a human problem, right at its source.

You can have any job in the world, but when it comes time to fight for your country this is the biggest job of them all; sacrificing your own life for others so that they can live a better life, happy and free. So here you go.

Films/Documentaries do that to us; they wake up us and let us see the true reality as it really is.

I'm glad you replied here because I lost interest, everywhere.

    * D-Day commemorative anniversary is coming up, in five days...there is nothing more powerful than seeing our brothers and sisters dying for us. ...War is a terrible thing, and with it the 'price' is much higher that we can ever imagine. ...All the money in the world put together just doesn't even approach the moral/spiritual/human impact; the destruction, the decline of humanity.

    Re: What are you watching?

    Bob,

Please hold on, it’s going to take a little while to get to my point, if you don’t mind. I love my BLU RAY discs and really feel like I am in a theatre when watching them. Slowly, I have been replacing many DVDs with their blu ray counterpart and discovered if I took my time I can get the cheap, very cheap.

For example I would be able to get the 4 1980-90 Batman movies for a total of $11. A Bargain. Almost.

The first movie was good, the second okay, the third fair and the fourth, awful. So I began to wonder, what were the worst real movies that I have seen over the “home theatre” period. That started for me about 1981 with Laser Disc.

But they have to be real movies. I don’t consider any Ed Wood, or Japanese horror movies “real” movies, if you know what I mean. I mean studio pictures with real stars, writers and actors.

    Well, Batman Forever starts it.
Superman 3, 4 and Superman Returns would be on my list.
    Blade III
Every Die Hard movie after the second one.
The Spirit, the worst of them all.
War of the Worlds (Tom Cruise)
    Pacific Rim
    John Carter
    Prometheus

    Any movie with Adam Sandler

    Re: What are you watching?

Hi Barry, nice to see you.

Like with anything else in life that we like; after a while, and experience, we're getting simpler, and just get what we want irregardless of price.
We go to places where we feel welcome and comfortable, and don't miss a thing about the rest.

I'm like that with movies too. ...And music. ...And people.

    Re: What are you watching?

    Hi Bob,

Let em say two things. First, by be aware of price, I generally don't usually spend less, I get more. I have more movies because I don't necessarily pay the top price. I went to Barnes and Noble to buy a book that I wanted to read. it was #30, Amazon had it for $18. I got the book from Amazon, but did have to wait an extra day to begin reading. But, that give me a chance to buy more books.

Also, there is value. When i was a kid, a slice of pizza was 15 cents, Good Humor is cream was also 15 cents and comics were 12 cents. Now Pizza is $2.50 a slice, ice cream is about $3 and I think comics are $4. I still get the first two. But some things cost so much that even though I have the money, I'd rather spend it on something else. Would I spend $10 for a slice of pizza? I don;t think so. $10 for Ice Cream? (If it were Haagen Das Chocolate Chocolate Chip, maybe.) But by just checking out a few places on line, I have been able to get a lot of good movies on Blu Ray and feel great about it.

    Re: What are you watching?

There are times that we don't care about prices; we just get what we want when we want.

Other times we are simply more discriminatory; we take the time to check and compare.

There is not one way better than the other; only the final satisfying emotional outcome counts. ...Not the financial one.
And the road to get there is stress-free; both ways.

    Re: What are you watching?

Don't get me wrong; I love peaceful, intelligent, romance, true stories, comedies, animation (PIXAR), 3D (IMAX), foreign films, good action, spaghetti westerns, good sci-fi flicks and all that great jazz.

And last night I just happened to watch a war movie based on true facts; only smoke! It was awesome!
...Not for the falling from the mountain and all the bruises and blood and shooting and killing, yes some great pieces of action here, but for the real message.
...The mission, the denouement, and its final outcome in that small Afghan village with father and son.
It's a must see in order to expand our knowledge on them people and appreciate their values that deserve the highest respect.

Late last night I watched an excellent French flick ::

    * Don't miss it, even if it's in French (English subtitles). ... Cinematography by Janusz Kaminski.
And starring (among others) la belle Emmanuelle Seigner and the great Max von Sydow.

Last night I watched This Is It again, because it is really good. I am no big MJ fan, but he was a crazy genius. Of course, Orianthi makes the 2nd half of the show most enjoyable along with the better sets of tunes. Sound from this is also better than the average.

What a shame for what he became and how he went out. I really wish he could have pulled this set of shows off.

I'm no MJ's fan either Brian, but this documentary is first class. The Blu-ray is top-notch; hisstory, picture, and audio quality wise (♪).
    {I do have a dozen of his albums, from back when I was ..., and also his latest/newest 2014 album's release: Xscape}

    * MJ's music is still alive. ...And will for a very long time.

Do you guys remember the flick 'Robocop' (1987) directed by Paul Verhoeven ('Showgirls')?

Well, last night I watched this one (2014) ::

    * I wished that they would have made it in 3D.
...Still decent 2D entertainment with a nice polished picture. ...The sound? ...Well, as unrealistic as it can sound (hyper-processed).

Really loved the original Robocop. Which reminds me of Almost Human (2013-), a TV series I watched recently and really liked.

It's a comedy Barry. ...A sarcastic sci-fi/comedy/parody/satire. ... Paul Verhoeven ('Flesh & Blood', 'Robocop', 'Total Recall', 'Basic Instinct', 'Showgirls', 'Starship Troopers', 'Hollow Man', 'Black Book') is a special character! ...He loves sex and violence, and polished everything (imagery wise) for his viewers, and personal satisfaction according to his own beliefs on the world surrounding him and abroad.

    Re: What are you watching?

Last night it was "Joe" starring Nicolas Cage, more boring than a Matt Damon movie. This flick was dark, violent, hard to follow the storyline at times and just plain awful. I can't see whay anyone would write crap like this, let alone make it into a movie. Cage is so boring it is tiring. He has One Act, no emotion. The rest of the cast were all nobodies I never heard of, so I guess they were cheap, like the lighting in this film. So many scenes were so dark it was silly, including a scene wher Cage removes pellets from a shotgun blast to the shoulder by himself and in the dark.

Don't wast an hour and 45 minutes, you can never get it back. I can compare it to another lousy flick from last year called "Mud" and just realized that the kid in Joe, Tye Kayle Sheridan, was also in Mud. Poor kid needs some better roles and is a half decent young actor.

I just turned on Goldfinger last night and I still love that picture! He's still funny, the villains are still bad and, in the end, it still doesn't really make sense, but it is so much fun to watch.

Maybe it's a new trend on our screens?
...To compensate for all the super heroes from cartoons, and all that CGI pizzazz from Hollywood blockbusters, a la Godzilla.

I'm a big Nicolas Cage's fan. ...He's over-the-top in most of his acting jobs. ...But that's Nicl, who he is; an extroverted persona.
...Almost to the point of being funny without trying to be too serious in a demented kind of way.

This flick is going to be released next week, on Blu. ...I've read some about it, and more here from you Brian. I think that I'm going to get it anyway (the Blu). ...I'll see for myself if I can handle him once more. ...I am my own best judge when it comes to living my own life; watching movies, listening to music, and all the rest that is contained in my nearest and farthest surroundings, including the various places and people and all that jazz.
I live in North America and the news are from all over.

    * 'Mud' was a different flick; with some genuine performances by the two young kids. ...I liked it.

In the 60s that picture just above was all the rage in a Bond flick.

What a dynasty! Double 007 ...And it just keeps going, for more than fifty years (half century +).
We'll be all dead but James Bond'll still be around.

'Goldfinger' was (still) one of the better/funnier ones. ...I agree.
