    Re: What are you watching?

    Last night ::

    * A masterpiece? ...A fiasco? ...Something between? ...Hmmm, for me, and me only; a diversion from reality.
I think it is sad, and this is part of the world many of the Earth's inhabitants live in. ...Then that diversion from reality becomes too real.
...Fortunately or unfortunately? ...Like I said; sadly.

Can I rate this flick? ...Of course I can: 0.5 out of 5 (me rating).
Other people can rate it whatever they thought and felt about it, ...and we can even talk about it.

A science-fiction, really? ...No, a real vision into today's and tomorrow's someone's real life of the future today.
...One vision, from one visionary, of many many people living that vision, that reality. ...I think. ...Sad because there are much more real important things in real life, and if we don't fix what needs to be fixed, then we're on a path to a rude awakening, or a very long sleep into total oblivion.

It is sad, and abstraction is just too real. ...Then in that sense the message was massaged into my brain, and my rating could have been so much different, and better.
Don't accord any importance to a rating; see it for yourself and look at her, if you can...because you won't see clearly what's in your virtual world, and even less what she really looks like, in real life, ...her.

    Re: What are you watching?

bob thanks for the review. This is a movie I was looking forward to seeing and I soon will I'm sure. You make it sound like it's an enigma we should be an interesting time to watch. I've been very busy with the new computer in the remodeling of my house, I've seen things butI haven't had time to post. I want to start posting about a couple comments made earlier. One of the movies I've seen recently was North by Northwest. It's still a great movie and a lot of fun to watch.

    Re: What are you watching?

Barry, it wasn't a review per se, but an essay from an impression impregnated in me by that flick.

That's right; my rating of this flick is one of the lowest, ever. But! I still highly recommend seeing it.
Because my rating has more to do with the real fiction than the director, the acting, and the overall 'fruit' (stance of the moment, what transcended from it inside me).

The world we are transported in is a very boring and superficial world. The city is lifeless with all robots not even living.
How could they, they're only robots!

Spike (Jonze) took his idea and created an extremely boring city; and as a sci-fi it is more a true real human drama that we live right now than anything else that could happen in the future.
And that, is the chef-d'oeuvre, because the twist is so evident that it almost escapes us. ...Almost.

    Re: What are you watching?

First, I know I am a bit behind.

I write this carefully because I do not want anyone here to think I am being fussy, or object to our great listers opinions and preferences. Sometimes on these sites people do say rude things but sometimes things can be misinterpreted when you don’t know the writer.

I do NOT like a video or audio room cluttered with equipment. I think the lights and stuff distract from the viewing. I also find it intimidating for family and friends you get overwhelmed with the huge amount of chrome and blinking lights!

I try to hide my equipment. My amps are in the garage and almost everything that can be hidden in a cabinet is. This was the room get very dark and I don’t feel claustrophobic and there is room for everyone. My dealers and even a manufacturer have told me that most people show off their stuff and I hide it.

So here is the view of my front. To make it seem more like a movie theater I have people come in and talk on their cell phones!BARRY-THEATER-FRONT-REVELS.jpg

    Re: What are you watching?

Barry, if you are a bit behind then I'm way behind.

When I watch a flick that's what I watch; the flick. When I listen to music ...

    * Perhaps I will share some pics...or maybe not. ...Maybe not because you cannot see the movie that I'm watching or hear the music that I'm listening to from my own eyes and ears. ...Or maybe yes because it don't matter and it's fun anyway. ...Like when Paul shared some youtube videos of the tunes he listened to in his room; that, is real cool. And it invites others to share, me included.

I never put my audio/video gear in my sig, and I only posted very few pics of some of my past rigs. I don't feel anything in showing and revealing, but I feel the entire world in sharing the emotional freedom from listening to the music I love and also from watching some flicks at home. ...And some days more than others. Yesterday is gone, and to some it can remain for another day, and to others an eternity.

    Last night (revisited) ::

    * Documentary on real events. ...More questions than answers; only K2, the mountain, has all the answers, and no human being know exactly what happened! ...Out of 22 climbers, half (11) met their final destiny, death, and one by one (not all together)!

But through some of the testimonies you can guess the obvious. ...And it wasn't a nice picnic up and down the mountain.

More emotional than real life, and more real life than man's ultimate ambition.

I could write a book (others could write an encyclopedia) about human nature and all that summit jazz, but I won't and nobody else can. ...Because nobody was present at all the eleven deaths! ...Only the mountain; so ask K2 to tell you all about it.
But it still speaks volume; in mountain (language) term.

...On DVD (I know; this was exceptional).

Jesus! ...Yesterday the Habs got beaten real good by the Rangers; two to seven!
I know why; in the Rangers' camp there is solemnity reigning right now, and that is a very powerful aura.
It is their sincere motivation coming directly from their heart and soul; the main key to success. ...Whoever has got the most of it wins!

Her was not available on Redbox, so my brother and I watched the Wolverine movie (second one) in 3D and The Music Man. It sounds silly, but the first thing I enjoyed was having my house back after construction. I might have been able to watch John Carter and be happy! The Wolverine was an OK movie, nothing special and I do love the Music Man.

I've got to turn you Canadian guys on to the REAL sport of baseball!!!!!

PS: Criterion just announced that All That Jazz will be released on Blu ray and 4K

    Re: What are you watching?

I played baseball (in a league) for few years when I was a young dude. ...And later on for fun with friends at a local park (a fun league this time around, not as serious as the one from my youth).

I also went to the baseball games every weekend for few years; the big hitters league. ...Under the viaduc (bridge). ...Again, in my younger youth. ...With my bro, and friends. ...And checking on the girls too.

    - 'The Wolverine' (Blu-ray, 3D) is much better than 'X-Men Origins Wolverine'
    - 'The Music Man' (BD) - Right on!
    - 'John Carter' (Blu-ray, 3D) has not much redeeming value.
    - 'All That Jazz'; comin' on Blu - I knew that. ...But 4K, really?

    * Another time you'll had the chance to see 'Her' ... She ain't going anywhere but remaining inside your PC.

Cool that you pop up like that Barry; it is rather quiet here.

My Mum's boyfriend was a pro golfer; he is still working @ a golf course, organizing tee offs and all that jazz, and with a PC.

I spent all my summers @ my local golf course, caddying and playing once a week. ...I did that with my bro for about eight years. We were getting up in the morning @ 5:00 AM, making our lunch and riding our bicycles to roughly five miles.
One day I caddied 54 holes. ...On an annual tournament with the players from the Expos, the Alouettes, and the Habs.

I used to watch golf on TV, with Dad, and later on alone; because like baseball it's not a given for everyone having the patience. Tennis too I used to watch.

Today I watch more outside than inside.

Watching golf on TV is at best boring unless you play the game, but Tennis, the back and forth and standing in a box for hours ( and no cart girl) is a horrid affair, not to mention its gets weird watching the crowd at the event , heads moving back and forth for hours

    Re: What are you watching?

    Revisited ::

Some people listen to music that they listened to before, some people do the same with watching movies.
Some people listen to new music all the time, and the same with watching movies.
Some people do both, with both music and movies. ...New (unknown, never listened to/watched) and old (known and previously listened to/watched).

I'm sure that you experienced situations in which you were well predisposed to listen to an album that you listened to before and with a renewed interest.
...Same for watching a flick that you saw before; in which the moment that you revisited it was ripe for a renewed interest (joy, reward, satisfaction, emotional value, new elements, etc.).

The human predisposition is probably the most important tool in audio (music listening), in cinema (movie watching), and in love (lovemaking).

And some of us we like this and that, and others like that and this.

    * It was good to revisit; I was in the right space at the right time on/in the right mood (predisposition). And it's a good/fun/action flick.

"Casting BY" is a documentary film I saw on Friday. It is first about the history of casting directors in Hollywood and how their roles changed for TV in the late 1950s. I featured MANY stars, including Clint Eastwood and Dustin Hoffman all of whom got their starts in small roles on TV including The Naked City and Route 66. The film later becomes an advocate for greater recognition at the Motion Picture academy for their efforts. As an advocacy film, it fails a bit because I began to lose interest, although I support their cause. It was a fun film to see.

    Re: What are you watching?

    No spoiler alert needed.

I saw the new X-Men film and I hope this is not a very strange review. I enjoyed it and would give it 3 out of four stars. This movie is one of the most plot heavy super-hero movies I have seen, that is, is has a large and lengthy story to tell.

It could also almost be considered another Wolverine movie, Mr. Jackman’s part is so imposing. And Jennifer Lawrence is becoming a huge star, her part was very much enlarged and she remain at the center of much of this movie.

So not to spoil it, I cannot tell you the plot. More than that, I cannot tell you the cast because that would give away so much of the plot. I will mention that Quicksilver appears an d his scenes are a lot of fun.

I will say that it very much reminded me of the Star trek movie with Chris Pine that came out a few years ago. If you saw X-Men First Class, you know that they were trying to reboot the series by taking into the past and now they add new elements to that, not unlike Star Trek.

The special effects were special, although a bit overdone at the end. And the acting, all the way around, was just special.

And stay until the very end of the credits! Oh and Len Wein, co-creator of the Wolverine has a small part. I didn’t see Stan Lee.

The story was based on a two part X-men story from 1980, with a “future” shown of 2013, last year! The movie takes place in 2024. The movie takes important elements from the story, but as I said, gives the Wolverine and Raven (Jackman and Lawrence) the leading parts. The comic does not end as neatly as the movie.

The movie was fun, especially if you liked the first 3 X-Men movies.

    Re: What are you watching?

Barry, Jennifer Lawrence; not a fan.

X-Men old series; ok. ...Newer rebooted X-Men; not really. But I'm sure that eventually I might get the Blu (#2 reboot) for cheap.
True, X-Men series (old and new) are a reminder of Star Trek, and Star Wars too (6 films).

Why not? Tom Cruise has made, IMO, some good SciFi movies.

Right now I am 'watching' my stereo. My poor HT is being so neglected now that I have my new stereo speakers.

Seems to be too "robotic" to me; even the music score.

    Re: What are you watching?

Neil Young & Crazy Horse have about a dozen Live Music Concerts/Documentaries. ...On Blu-ray and on DVD.

    Among them:

    - Americana (2012) ... BD
    - Psychedelic Pill (2012) ... BD
    - Year of the Horse (1997) ... DVD
    - Rust Never Sleeps (1979) ... DVD

    * I know nothing about Netflix; not even on my radar (my rabbit antennae doesn't reach that far).

    Re: What are you watching?

Ten days ago I watched a Film/Documentary, but I did not post it (here).
Yesterday I watched it again (and the same "Final cut for Real"; 160 mins) but this time with the audio commentary (ies) track on; plus some extra features from the first Theatrical version (122 mins) disc.

It's a very very powerful film, so much so that it makes you think very very deep inside the human psychology, and world's mentality and history. ...Inside your oneself too, it goes without saying. ...And inside Anwar Congo's mind and state in particular; one of the main killers in this film.

It is extremely painful to watch @ several times. But it is also required viewing, in my deep and sincere opinion.

It is unique, important, and I can easily write a book or three on this subject.
Please, don't have any expectation, no prejudice, no assumption, ...just watch it. ...And if you want, afterwards, we can discuss it in deeper details.
It is not a subject that will please everyone, but it is an utmost important subject; it's a big deal, and not only in Indonesia (from their mid 60s' dark history) but also in the whole world, including America and its influence all around. ...And Europe, Russia, China, Germany, ...

It's Big and it's Powerful and it needs to be Known. Sensitive people (women, children, men); ...it ain't for them, but all men, and many women (all) should know.
And like I said; this is not just part of Indonesia's history, but World's history, and even much more deeper than that into MAN's deepest inner self (inside Anwar Congo and other mass killers) and all the ticking surroundings that make our world degenerating into extinction. It started inside and propagated all on the outside, and in various shapes and forms.

Highly Recommended that you take the time to explore into your own emotions.
...Because if music is an emotional experience, this film is an emotional tour of exploration, a revelation. ...Of the highest caliber.

It is unique filmmaking. ...Nothing else like it; not in my life's recollection. ...At least not as deep and real.

    * You can read a short glimpse by clicking on the above picture cover (like I always provide with films and music).
And you can also read a whole lot more about this film from all over the Internet (I did that too). ...Not just @ Rotten Tomatoes.

Not quite the same yet... The Habs have to win three in a row to advance, while going into tonight's game against the Kings the Hawks have to take three out of four. They're not out of it yet and they've come back from worse deficits (down 1 - 3) in previous playoff runs. GO HAWKS!!!

The Kings significantly outplayed the Hawks again, and now they will need to win three in a row against the Kings to advance. It's not looking good but they've done it before.

Wow, that's a very bold prediction (and one which I'd like to see come true!) I don't know if you're a betting man, but you'd get some great odds on that happening!

    Re: What are you watching?

On Netflix I've just finished the first series, (5 episodes), of an excellent British Police drama ...

Line of Duty ~ creator: Jed Mercurio

Acting and directing are great with a high degree of realism. The principal lead (in Series 1), Lennie James is outstanding.

The show is about a lot of things which are all handled well to very well indeed:

    • A talented policeman who does a couple of things wrong as a cop and husband, and who tries might & main to cover them up with degrees of harm to others and ultimate tragedy for himself
    • Interdepartmental jealousies and conflict in organizations like this police department
    • The temptation of the easy lie versus the inconvenient truth
    • Personal loyalties sometime questioned, sometimes betrayed
    • Personal ambition and its effect on personal duty and the organization
    • One's personal conflicts and guilts that effect one's duties
    • Certain key aspects of organized crime
    • The corrupting influence of crime on individuals
    • The result of neglect and under privilege on a pre-adolescent
    • And as much as anything else, the eagerness of organizations to cover up failures and misdeeds in the cause of protecting its reputation.
