Dolemite Is My Name, was it good for you Norman?

The Two Popes was also excellent.

The Irishman was the best film for me so far this year.

Joker was also excellent, and different for a comic book supervillain.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I revisited this flick last night but this time around the Director's Cut (half hour longer).

This 3-hour cut is on the Blu-ray (1080p) disc only, not in HDR/UHD.

I slightly prefer it to the Theatrical version...about 10%
It adds to some characters in a positive way.

    Overall: 72

    * Some parts are Mickey Mouse, other parts are good. If it would have been consistently good that would have been a better flick. Give it a shot if you like to see how the soul vampires suck it out from normal folks to gain more pow-wow.

It's like The Shining part deux, but the supernatural side, outside the physical world.
And yes there is an axe @ the end ...

I rely on Ralph Potts on AVS forum. His reviews are close enough to mine that I trust his ratings. He gives a quick synopsis which tells me whether I have any interest all. Rates 4K and Blu ray separately. I'm 4K exclusively. He also is up to date with everything just arriving.
For this weekend (long weekend here) I have Bad Boys For Life, Bloodsport, and Birds Of Prey.

With Covid we have been in a lot. We watched Seven Worlds One Planet. Great scenery and a good documentary. Richard Attenborough has been doing this for 45 years now. We would watch one world a night. It kept our interest all the way through.

Harriet - Now maybe this should have been a winner as opposed to the sub titled Korean movie that nobody saw. Not too much in the way of violence, but more of a good historical account of her journeys and accomplishments. It was also cool to get a better understanding of the role Philly played in the whole Railroad.

I watched that 2 nights ago. I liked the movie overall. Loved the Knife artwork. My only complaint was having Daniel Craig trying to sound like Forest Gump.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Last night we watched a very disturbing movie, Dark Waters. This is the 20 some year story about the Lawyer who took on Dupont over the Teflon contamination of the land, the water and the people. Teflon is a forever chemical, C8, and once in your body it never leaves. Too much and it creates all kinds of tumors and black teeth and more. Dupont, the EPA, and the Government hid all this from people for 50 years and kew it was killing us within a few years of creating it if not sooner.

To top it off, we watched that movie just after watching a video about how they treat our food supply of Cattle, Chickens and more. I will be eating way less meat from here on.

Excellent film based on real life incidents. Even today we live in a world of pain and misery from those big greedy companies killing lots of people (here Dupont). Amazing that in developed countries we let this fly! Everyone should see that film...Dark Waters.

My favorite film of 2019, better than anything else, including Parasite, Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood, Joker. I saw it on a state-of-the-art huge IMAX screen and huge sound; it was an inoubliable film experience. I love the music score.
I love the opening (zoom out from a field and under a tree) and the closing (zoom in from a field and under a tree). Intelligent moving photography with the lights and angles and closeups and midfield cinematography...day and night and between all. The music score always follows the picture score.

It's like one long shot with a blank in the middle.
After few viewings you can start counting the cuts...there are about three dozens.
But one viewing you see only one cut (the black out in the middle).
It's a very creative film and the story (based on reality) is a worthy and poignant cause.
It is composed with realism and emotional humanity.
... A true team of artists creating some of the best they're good @ ... mastercraftmanship.

Because films matter ... the art of moving pictures with moving music...1917 is it.

Watched Bloodshot last night. The plot is a little diffucult to follow. If you are a Vin Diesel fan you will be able to put up with this movie.
Just finished watching Birds Of Prey. The words bad, stupid are understatements. What a massive waste of time. I want my money back with interest.

I liked Extraction; the action was over the top to be sure but the camera work was very well executed in style that brings the viewer in a realistic perspective closer following the actors performing their ballets.

Ouch, both flicks. We need better filmmakers ...

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Last night was Midway. Now here is a real War Movie. After all the hype, 19017 left me way underwhelmed as I thought it was about 1917 and WW1, not just 2 guys and 2 days. Anyway, Midway has some great filming and will rock your Home Theater. Well done.

Here is a list of other movies watched during Lockdown in no specific order

The Fanatic - Not a bad thriller and not as gory as the trailers tease. Travolta does a great job as a looney tune.
47 Meters Down Uncaged - Not as good as the first or second and highly unbelievable
Stuber - Frickin hilarious and worth the watch. Batista is getting better at acting.
Ad Astra - Pitt and TL Jones are two people that should have never been cast for outer space rolls. As bad as Clooney and Bullock in Gravity
Abominable - Cute animation movie, passed the time
Judy - Great movie and acting
Togo - DaFoe as a Musher with some great dogs and a true story. Good Movie
Primal - Twisted story and Nick Cage was better than his usual emotionless act
Joker - Now this is what Best Actor means, should also have been Best Movie instead of what was this year
Badland - Somewhat predictable Western, slow moving, but I like Westerns
1917 - One of the biggest disappointments of the year, 2 guys, no war, not much of anything besides pre-release Hype
Little Women - Decent portrayal of this one. I have always enjoyed Saoirse Ronan since The Lovely Bones, great young actress
Jojo Rabbit - Comical and serious movie about a conflicted young boy in Nazi Germany, good movie
Ford vs Ferrarri - Matt Damon finally bought some emotion, a little drawn out but good movie
Zombieland Double Tap - Just as stupid funny as the other one. Entertaining and fun
The Adams Family - OK but not sure how Gomez got so short and fat
Last Christmas - I really liked this one for the big spiritual/ghostly twist that is revealed in the end. Great movie
Playing with Fire - John Cena is the next Arnold. Good clean fun and games in this Smoke Jumper adopts orphans movie
The Current Wars - good history about the rivalries between Westinghouse, Edison, and Tesla
Richard Jewel - Poor guy died within ayear of them ruining his character instead of finding the real bomber - well done
Underwater - This is about the best part Christen Stewart can get, because this is the best she has to offer - Meh
Cats - After the first drawn out boring song, things pick up and this all star cast gets going. Good adaption of the play
Bombshell - The people who run the Media are just dirtbags, good timely movie for what is happening with our Media.
Jumanji the next Level - Good fun in the series
Dolittle - Fun adaptation of this old story but got silly at the end with a Dragon
Terminator - Dark Fate "What did you say to them?" - "I Won't Be Back" Priceless
The Irishman - A little long but well done story about Hoffa's Driver more than Hoffa himself.
The Lost Husband - Sorta like a Hallmark movie, good story with no language or violence, nice change
A Hidden Life - Story of a Conscientious Objector in Austria not wanting to fight in Hitler's War
Onward - Cute animation with good lessons

i also liked the movie extraction -- something similar you might like is the netflix series dehli crime which is based on an actual (horrific) crime that received international attention.

I will check it out. I thought I'd seen that series, but I confused it with DELHICOPs on Prime.

Another Prime series worth watching is MIRZAPUR - it's like an Indian Soprano's in Hindi, but much more violent. I binge watched all the seasons in a couple of months last year. The visuals are really good in 4k.

Another film on Netflix that some of you have probably seen ...

Based on real events, and violent...not for everyone.
It's a well executed film with excellent acting, emotional, very.

Escape from Pretoria - This was a great movie about a real Prison Break in South Africa which started their biggest manhunt. A few Political Prisoners somehow make Keys out of wood for every lock in the prison.....except for 1. Very intense and fascinating movie starring Daniel Radcliffe. Keeps you on the edge of your seat right up to the end.

    Last night I revisited ... (1990)

Light war flick with some intense moments.

"Memphis Belle is a fictionalization of the 1944 documentary Memphis Belle: A Story of a Flying Fortress by director William Wyler, about the 25th and last mission of an American Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress bomber, the Memphis Belle, based in England during World War II."
