    i called him morgan

just watched this documentary movie -- anyone interested in jazz and just music in general will probably enjoy this. it is currently streaming on netflix. interestingly enough, it is a sweedish produced film.

needless to say, the soundtrack is great -- as is the vintage footage of NYC!

after watching, i have been re-listening to his catalogue which the movie gives an added dimension and appreciation. some really great stuff especially some of his less celebrated titles -- particularly those with jackie mclean as sideman.

    Re: i called him morgan

watched this documentary last year after a friend referred it to me; i had been revisiting all Lee Morgan's recordings and the film really fleshed out the music with some reality.

Lee Morgan 45's evening ---sweet music! | What's Best Audio and Video Forum. The Best High End Audio Forum on the planet!

he has become possibly my favorite Trumpet player, even better than Miles for my tastes. really amazing how great and creative he was so young. my early investment in all the jazz 45rpm reissues really paid off as there are a bunch of his albums both as a leader and sideman. it helps he had some great collaborators. i've bought every Lee Morgan recording i can get my hands on.

very sad about his untimely death. he would have otherwise delivered to us much more great music.

the documentary was really well done.

i just pre-ordered this Lee Morgan box set. not yet shipping.

I did too. Much of set wasn't previously released, the sonics are really good to boot. Not to be missed.

I watched this today. Really great but sad. I to prefer Lee Morgan over Miles Davis but not by much. I also preordered the box set.

    Re: i called him morgan

I did watch the documentary over the weekend. Very informative and, as others have stated, to a degree very sad.

Lee Morgan was clearly very talented. Among my favorites trumpet players. I've been buying every Blue Note and Tone Poet series album with his name attached to it.

As we look at the history of American music and Jazz of the 20th century, there was so much talent in the 50s, 60s and beyond.
