Anyone have experience with the Ambrose ONE, or it ugly duckling twin the LS300 balanced pre?

They look to be the same, except the Ambrose ONE is in a custom, very nice looking, enclosure. As opposed to the standard Modwright look.

I love the look and it has the right ins/outs for my needs.

Disconcerting that I can't find much in the way of reviews for either of these products. Not outrageously expensive, quality gear. I know that the Covid gap erased a couple of years, but I was hoping I could read something about them.

Hey Bones13
I have one and its really great .Before I bought one I had pass labs xp 20 and The ambrose One is much better .If you have any questions just ask.I was one off the first one to order from Dan .I think I have nummer 3

Thanks for the endorsement.

Which tubes have you liked the best, so far, in your pre-amp?

These units do look great. Does this pre rival the The Rhumba Extreme 1.3 or The Rhythm 1.3 by Backert Labs (lacking one xlr output) at $7500 and $10,750?

I want the 2x XLR outputs - for speaker amp and headphone amp. I did look at several other units that had built on headphone amps, but, in the end, decided that none could better my current BHSE electrostatic setup.

I also wanted a tube pre without a plethora of tubes. This pre has 2x rectifier tubes, and 2x 6DJ8 (and equivalent) tubes. Both can be rolled to adjust tone, but not too many to keep straight.

My tube phono amp uses 6N23P tubes, so I have some sitting around already.

I also like the power transformer in a separate box.

Placed my LS300 order yesterday 😎. Hope it arrives for the Memorial Day weekend.

Congrats Bones
I am sure you Will love it .
As of now I use eh 6922 Gold pin great detail and mids without any softness.
I use GE 5u4gb nos for rect tubes .Ha e trues more exotic tubes but there just works . Funny because there are The tubes DAn sent with The pre amp.

I've had my MWI LS300 for almost five years - unit #2 off the assembly line. I don't consider it an ugly duckling at all, just the opposite. While I like the Daedalus Audio wood cabinet very much, it wouldn't have matched with the rest of my gear at all.

I've spent a lot of time trying out different signal and rectifier tubes. The combination I've ended up with are Amperex Holland PQ 6922 tubes combined with RCA 5U4G rectifier tubes. I use the same tubes in my other MWI modified source units as well (PH 9.0XT, Oppo 205, Cambridge CXNv2 streamer/DAC).

I am very pleased with my LS300, along with all of my other ModWright Instruments gear. I wish there was more MWI discussion on this forum. That being said, I'm happy to share my impressions. I look forward to hearing yours, Bones 13, when you receive your unit!

Lots of “best of show” comments on the Amperex PQ tubes. I’m going to start with the stock tubes. After I get a feel for things, I’m going to try some more modest tubes. I ordered some gold lion tubes from Kevin at Upscale for new production tubes, and have a set of NOS SWGP Reflektor 6n23p tubes in my phono pre to try for NOS.

I rescued 4 GE NOS rectifier tubes from the MC60 amps, I’ll give them a try after awhile. These are GE 5U4GB, I’m hoping they will work

The “better” NOS E88CC tube variants are getting ridiculously expensive. Perhaps one day…

Beautiful Pre-Amp. Solid, well made. The umbilicals from the power supply are stout, you could easily drag a car with those. Nice remote.

Dead quiet. I have a pair of sensitive speakers, and 100w power amps.

My current tube complement - GE NOS rectifiers and Gold Lion E88CC / 6922. Just the right amount of warm, but still detailed, with good high and low.

The only thing that keeps getting me, is that the volume resets to 0 everytime you turn in on, and I wonder what it not working... I will adapt and overcome.
