First impressions - damn it! I don't want to like them. No, no, no.

    But...

Great tone. NOT aggressive or bitey at all. More resolution than the Siltech (hearing more detail and nuances in the music, like breaths from the musicians that I have not heard before). Very balanced top to bottom without the slight coloration in the lower mids that some cables have. The music has great rhythm, no excessive hang to the notes. Very quick start and stop.

Not exactly. MIT called me. But I've been interested and after reading Robert Harley's review of the MIT cables in this months TAS, I became downright excited to get them.

    115 poles.

Well, it's almost 7:30pm and I'm still at the store. My wife just called to ask where I was.

    Uhhh....just one more song....

Going to keep burning these babies in. MIT says 2 weeks.

    Re: MIT in the store!

One of my local dealers swears by MIT and has used them for 20 years. I had an in-home demo for several weeks of an MIT loom and they definitely have a lot of strong points: terrific imaging and soundstage, detail and nuance, very low noise, neutrality and excellent speed and dynamics on transients. I believe I ended up sticking with my Cardas at the time because the MIT leaned a bit too much to the analytical side versus the organic sound of my Cardas. I'm sure Mike's MIT cables are a newer, higher and better version of what I demoed several years back.

    Best,
    Ken

I'd definitely like to try an MIT loom sometime in my own system. At least the speaker cables and a pair of interconnects. I've been skeptical about their technology in the past but, always curious.

    Mike,

Please let us know as you continue to break them in.

    MIT in the store!

I stayed at the store until late listening. I found serious toe tapping happening. Also, I kept turning the music louder and louder. Such an exhilarating sound.

But, I must continue to listen and when the newness wears off, what's left? Good, bad, indifferent?

I also have a loom of Shunyata Sigma NR speaker, IC, etc coming and I've recently had some Tellurium Q (black and Ultra Black) in the store. Very nice!

But so far, these MIT's are a terrific pairing on the Magico's.

The MIT cables match extremely well to the Magico sound. Big synergy there. I'm sure this is the reason Magico primarily uses them.

I think the MIT cables might be a bit too much of a good thing for my tastes. Like you Ken I think i'd lean toward my current Jorma cables for their more natural/organic presentation, harmonic richness & touch more delicacy.

From my perspective, this is the best cable synergy I've ever heard with the Magico's in the store. I've tried: AQ, Siltech, Kimber, Ansuz, Tellurium Q, etc.

Frankly, it's not close. I now know why Magico uses them in the factory and the shows.

    But....I keep listening.

You're so right Bill. After 25 years of IT Projects, I much prefer this. But the saying "how do you make a small fortune in high end audio? Start with a large fortune!" is sooooo true.

Hiring smart, young go getters to do the IT project work, respond to BS RFP's, RFI's and RFQ's was the best thing I ever did.

    Mike ,

are you using the interconnects as well ? If so , how do you determine the impedence setting to use ? Trial and error ?

The interconnects have a 3 position switch and the starting point for selection is the line level impedance of the source (sending) unit.

Mike does Magico use MIT wire internally in their speakers?

I just left it at Medium (40-100ohms). The Pass amp is 100ohms. The Vitus is 75ohms.

Ok, thanks for the clarification Mike. I was sure that Magico were using essentially the same internal wire in the S5 Mk2 as the S7. But that only highlights nothing stands still at Magico, and each loudspeaker design essentially starts with a fresh page.

Siltech is my go to cable. I hate to admit it, but these MIT's are also superb (says the guy who swore he would never have "cables with boxes")...grumble, grumble. When I read about the technology behind MIT, it makes sense and you can literally hear it. Damn it!

I find most copper cables sonically are different in a "varying shades of grey" sense. Of course some are better than others. I love the liquidity of Shunyata and can't wait to try the new NR series speaker and IC's. Audioquest copper and silver are also superb! You wouldn't believe how beautiful the full AQ loom sounds on the S3 mk2's with Ayre. Ansuz is a real sleeper and terrific with Raidho. Ansuz power cables are superb. I haven't had enough time with Tellirium Q, but first impressions are really good - especially the Ultra Black. I find Siltech's silver/gold composites absolutely splendid and completely different sonically from a typical copper cable. The MIT's with their technology again, totally different. So far, incredible synergy with Magico.

    Hi Mike,

I'm not surprised you are loving the MIT cables with Magico. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if MIT becomes your go to cable with Magico. They should sound great together because they are very similar sonically. Both have rock solid imaging, a broad soundstage, a high level of detail and are very neutral in their presentation.

    Best,
    Ken

I can't wait for the comparison with the Shunyta Sigma loom. But, I've heard a full magico system with Shunyata for power (cables and conditioners) and MIT speaker and interconnects.

It was a great sound for sure.

I also auditioned the $50K MIT loom with the Magico S7 and it was very impressive.

Same here. I was just about ready to upgrade my ICs and speaker cables to the new Sigmas, but spent the money on a two week trip to Peru to cruise the Amazon. Wondering if I made the right decision.

It's hard to stay impartial, because these are on another planet.

I took them to a clients and now he won't give them back.

I would LOVE to try the Oracle series.

Not sure if you plugged in the MA-X phono that you show in the picture, but I would say there is just no other for this application. Its performance can be further improved if you shield the box with mu-metal and depending on the situation, with additional ferrite beads... this is how I run it. Fascinating cables and technology, especially the Oracle line.

I'm going through mental gymnastics about keeping it. I'm going to order a full loom for my home system. Since I have a decent turntable with the Kronos, I think keeping the MA-X Phono makes sense.

I had always sworn "no boxes on my cables for me". But after MIT sent me this loom to TRY, I could not get over the dramatic difference I was hearing and therefore, I bought the demo set without thinking twice. I even had to take them to a clients house to verify what myself and others who came to the store last week were hearing. I thought I was losing my mind. I've never heard cables do what these do.
