    High-End Audio Faces a Reckoning

And this simple fact makes the fun stuff feel even further out of reach.

    High-End Audio Faces a Reckoning

I was in my 20's in 1980 and there were stereo shops on every corner beginning with rack systems on up to totl KEF, B&W, Klipsch and infinity, but it was speakers that looked the goods like Cerwyn Vega and advertising for Bose, but mostly big boxes with massive woofers. Back then a pair of dream...

Best Pure Musical Amplifiers (power not important)

I think the Pathos Logos Mk2 has an integrated class ab amp with a tube pre and for a $5k component I was surprised at how well it tamed the Paradigm Persona's.

    Silly Question regarding Frequency Response:

There's test tone sweeps and fq bursts online I'll use on my system along with a db meter once a year or so to test my hearing and speakers in room tonal balance. The 20 and 25hz are audible in my room and while fq's below 20 hz might be audible idk if it isn't just all the stuff in the room...

    25 Most Underrated Vintage Speakers

I go thru the list and that old saying comes to mind, damned if I can remember it now 'memories make the heart grow fonder' or such. I keep an old pair of personal favorites (25 yo, not the 45-50 yo) that i'll put in rotation once in awhile when my memory tries convincing me otherwise.

What type of amps do you use? Tube? Solid State? Both? Hybrid?

I'm getting close to 3 years in my main system with no more itch to scratch. In the 80's and early 90's I was drawn to Mcintosh appearance, but wasn't sold on the sound difference compared to brands like B&K that dealers would actually discount to push out the door. I replaced a h360 and then...

What type of amps do you use? Tube? Solid State? Both? Hybrid?

Threads going on 11 years! Mc611's with Mac autoformers which tbh I have no idea if they offer any benefit to a ss design. I do appreciate the improved dynamics over the 250 wpc int I previously had

What type of speaker still sounds good at low listening levels?

It's the mc 611's driving the Blades. With the Hegel h360 they needed some volume for the bass to come to life. The mc611's off the 4 ohm taps (only option I tried) not just woke the speakers up but added a good measure of detail even at low volume with the meters bouncing around .6 of a watt

Which amplifier tap... 4 ohm or 8 ohm

Bump, while the dealer that sold me my amps is aware of how low impedance drops with my speakers he still recommended I use the 8 ohm taps for best results. Of course, I connected them to the 4 ohm taps never gave it another thought, but while our discussion was brief I’m of the understanding...

    Why I Stopped Using Roon

I'm probably in the minority here, but I prefer the hi rez mqa. In my system the presentation was so much more open that I was ok paying the premium with tidal. After mqa went bye bye I thought roon would next to go but I'm glad it's still here as i'm becoming a musical trivia junkie from all...

What type of speaker still sounds good at low listening levels?

I was about to change my speakers because they sounded flat and boring and low volume until my dealer sent me home with a different amp. It was hard to believe I was listening to the same speakers.

    B&W 801D4 review

Thanks Mike, I understand those of us with different sensitivities and budgets to work with and take all personal comments as intended.

    B&W 801D4 review

These days of web searching a 3 year bump isn't all that unusual. I'v been considering trying the 801D4 with my mc611's and the comments on this thread me reconsidering. Are the 611's not up to the task or are the comments more personal in nature? If the 611's can handle the 801d4 and drive them...
