Best Pure Musical Amplifiers (power not important)

That is a great suggestion, el84 amps kind of slipped my mind. I am planning on building an Audio Note EL84 AMP. Their stuff almost always sounds right. Thx.

Best Pure Musical Amplifiers (power not important)

Those amps look like my cup of tea. I need maybe 8 to 12 watts or so........oh well.

Best way to add and cross-over dual subs in a 2-channel system?

Yup, I have heard many subs that sound better from the speaker connection than from the "line out" connection on the preamp. Makes no sense to me but it is what it is....

    TEAC UD701 Stereophile Recommended!

I made a mistake in using Stereophile's recommended components to build a system in the 80's. I came across a good amount of money and decided to upgrade my system. It was the worst sounding system I ever owned. I learned a bunch about system matching.

What type of speaker still sounds good at low listening levels?

Last time I really cranked it up, I set off the burglar alarm. The wife was not happy`. The Volti's get loud and dynamic as heck on 25wpc....lol. But, they are also really good at low volume too. Cheers.

DSD versus PCM - Is DSD really better or is it a 'myth'

I am a huge Ayon fan, and my Ayon CD player is switchable between PCM and DSD. This is a big deal as you can A/B them back-to-back. Almost all of my cd's sound a bit better with DSD. Smoother overall, but the midrange is where DSD really shines. And if the midrange isn't right, nothing else...

    Summer Amplification?

For a solid state amp in that power range the Aria by David Belles (Power Modules) would be on my short list. I have never heard a Belles piece that didn't sound outstanding.

Is Class A still the king of tone?

Lots of good advice here on amplification. However, if you are going to put them on stands next to the tv, I would consider a full range (or almost full range) floor standing speaker as they don't take up anymore floor space. For almost $5000 there are a lot of good choices. Good luck in your...

    Newbie needs tube amp tip

Ralph has been designing and manufacturing amplifiers for many decades. His products are highly respected, and his customers are happy. A little respect to one of the leaders in the industry would be appropriate. Now I am going to make a ham and cheese sandwich and put some kind of mustard on...

    Any experience with PSB?

I agree with you on the higher sensitivity vs low sensitivity point of view, I was just throwing a shoutout to Paul as he is a great guy and has great products. There was no challenging on my part intended (not this time anyway). Cheers.

    Exploring new tubes such as 45/ 2A3 / 807's

I had a little VTL amp about 25 years ago that sounded superb, like a moron, I sold it to a buddy of mine. I can't remember exactly but it was like 15 or 20wpc. Anybody familiar with this amp and can help with a name or anything for it?

The system that I missed the most….

I don't miss any system I have had. I do miss that Cary V12 amplifier. I used to only run 2 tubes per side = 17wpc of triode goodness. IMHO, Cary's amps are better than their preamps.
