    Jeff Bagby R.I.P.

Just heard, Jeff Bagby passed away from Covid. My condolences to his family. I communicated with him a number of times and he was more than willing to share his DIY designs. I was a complete stranger who knew him only from his reputation. Yet he was gracious and forthcoming. The DIY community...

    Audio Tribbles

Been into audio for 52 years now. I have always prided myself with conservative purchases, while saving for my next acquisition. I never spent beyond my audio fund, and had little or no redundant gear sitting around. About a year ago, I purchased a pair of Falcon LS3/5a’s after attending the...

Tubed Power Amplifiers. Are the disadvantages too great ?

Had a thought yesterday about tubed power amps. I have many friends who will never consider a solid state power amplifier. I am not one of them. I certainly understand the fluidity and “beauty” of tube gear. Nevertheless, considering the great solid state amps out there, the question stands.

Reference 3a CC LS-II Speaker Cable

I am interested in this cable for a friend who owns Reference 3a speakers. Does anybody know the price of this cable? Are they sold direct? I would assume they are optimized for their speakers. Any observations are appreciated.

    $350 Cartridge

In the land of ridiculousness, phono cartridge prices have gone through the roof. I personally think a teeny tiny phono cartridge should cost no more than $350. There must certainly be a giant killer out there in that price range. After all in the old days phono cartridges were the most...

    Bad Speakers

I mean no disrespect in starting this thread, but I continue to be flabergasted as to how many high priced bad speakers are out there. I do not mean to insult anyone or say what anyone is buying is not right for them. And like anything else, audiophiles come in many colors and flavors. We all...

    Sterling Broadcast LS3/6’s

Am very interested in the Sterling Brodcast LS3/6’s. They were never at a show and auditioning them in the US seems virtually impossible. Does anyone out there know of a way to hear these puppies ?

    Graham LS5/9

Last year at Axpona Chicago I heard the Graham LS3/5’s , the LS5/9’s and the LS5/8’s. I was hoping the LS5/9’s would impress since they would fit my small soundroom perfectly. Turns out the LS3/5’s and the LS5/8’s were great. The LS5/9’s not so much. This year David Michael Audio brought the...

    Totem Tribe Tower

Has anyone heard these? I see they are small floorstanders utilizing a 1.3” soft dome and two 4” bass drivers. Very small footprint. Sounds like something my modest sized sound room would easily accommodate. Always admired Vince Bruzzese and Totem products. Not sure about the “Claw” though. Am...

A Moving Coil phono stage or a more expensive high output cartridge ?

I would like to draw on other’s experience. There is a MM phono stage built into my Quicksilver full function preamp. I have been very happy with it for many years. Seems I’ve come to a crossroads where the high output carts I have been buying lately have not been doing it for me (in the $600...

    Clearday Speaker Cables

Anyone heard of these ? Am using them now. Paul the owner is the nicest guy possible. Not looking to boost his sales as I have nothing to do with his company. Just mentioning a good thing.

What’s the big deal with class ‘D’ anyhow ?

I have heard many class “D” amplifiers. To these ears, they all sounded inferior. Over and over, proud owners compare them to their ‘old’ single ended, class A or class AB amplifiers with perplexing results. They consistanly cannot compare. I have even seen audiophiles replace their great...

Is anybody discounting phono cartridges any more ?

It wasn’t long ago where cartridges were retailing at half or 40% of their list price. Now retailers are selling all cartridges at full suggested retail prices. As if there was a law against discounting cartridges. In addition, phono cartridge manufacturers are selling the same $100 cartridge...

    Rega Exact Cartridge

Help !!! My Rega cartridge fell apart while mounting to a new head shell. It’s only 16 months old (it’s a baby). Has anyone had build problems with Rega Cartridges ? Rega offers no contact information on their website. USA distributor is hinting that I was modifying or “upgrading” the...
