This is the same argument that has been posited over and over again. All I know is that cables do make a difference and I can hear a difference with upgrades within the same brand of cables.

I would strongly suggest you look into DH Labs. Their cables aren't exactly cheap, but they will get you %95 of the way to "state of the art" for a reasonable spend.
