    Isoacoustics Gaia Speaker Isolation

While I have not, a close friend of mine replaced his Titans (the version for heavier speakers) with the new Titan-Neos. He said that -- perhaps -- there was some slight improvement in the tightness of the deep bass coming from his pair of SVS PB17-Ultra subwoofers. One thing of which I am...

    Isoacoustics Gaia Speaker Isolation

My subs weigh about 135 lbs. each. The footers are Gaia Is.

    Isoacoustics Gaia Speaker Isolation

I have had Gaia Is under my SVS SB17-Ultra subwoofers, which rest on concrete, carpet pad, and plush carpet, for several months. Yesterday, I installed IsoAcoustics’s carpet spikes for Gaia Is under my subwoofers. Wow! I was surprised— and delighted — by how much my bass really tightened up. At...

    A Pyrrhic Audio Victory

Tom, you are so right! I feel as if you are another candle lit in the darkness. I am fortunate that I have SVS subwoofers that are controlled via my iPhone. As soon as I detect "artificially induced" bass, I am able to lower by 20 db the output of my subwoofers. Still, it is an inconvenience as...

    A Pyrrhic Audio Victory

Of course I can, and have. What I have indirectly tried to convey is that my system is so good that the limiting factor is the quality of recordings now instead of the capabilities of my audio system.

    A Pyrrhic Audio Victory

I am entirely satisfied with the bass in my room at the current positioning of my Magico A5s and my SVS SB17 subwoofers. With a good recording, I have well-produced bass down into the lower 20HZs. What I am finding problematic is the enormous boosting of bass -- done at the time the recording is...

    A Pyrrhic Audio Victory

Today, I finished setting up my new Magico A5 speakers, positioning them and integrating them with my two SVS SB17-Ultra subwoofers. This was the final chapter in assembling my "end game" audio system, and I am (with one exception) very satisfied with the way records, CDs, and streaming sound...

Stereophile Does Follow-Up Review of Revel Salon 2

After more than 20 years of wonderful service and with somewhat mixed emotion , I am replacing my original Revel Studios and Revel center channel Voice speakers. I was amazed to see that a pair of these Studios in good condition currently sell for about $3,000 on Audiogon/US Audio Mart...

    Proper Asymmetrical Speaker Installation

Next week, my new, and quite expensive, new loudspeakers are being delivered to my home. In discussing their installation today, I was told by the dealer that his guys will unbox them and position them where I want them to be. Essentially, that is it; they are simply a delivery service. I am...

    Visit to Magico

I guess the complaints about the listening session for the A Group were so robust that the program was changed. Besides incorporating new content, roughly how long did your session last?

    Visit to Magico

You are so right! Saturday's demo was disheartening. The prior day, I spent the afternoon at Music Lovers Audio in Berkely. I listened extensively to both the Wilson Sasha V and the Sonus Faber Stradivarius G2 ; fortunately, the electronics were nearly a duplicate of what I use at home. The...

    Visit to Magico

I also participated in Saturday's tour, and I concur that the care and effort that goes into Magico's loudspeakers' designs, as well as into their manufacturing, is tremendously impressive. I wish I could say that the S5 speaker demo was at the same level, as it certainly was not. Perhaps the...

    Bricasti M19 Reference SACD/CD Transport

Quick update: I have owned an M19 for about three months now. It has replaced a Wadia 8 (for CDs)and a Theta Compli (for SACDs).. I am delighted with my purchase. Its laser pick-up is more accurate. It. Outputs via an I2S connection to its companion M21 DAC. Digital Nirvana!

Any experience with Shunyata Theta cables?

Not exactly right. My Shunyata Sigma Ethernet cable uses Telegartner connectors whereas the Theta version uses what Shunyata describes as “SR2-RJ45” connectors. Believe me, there is a dimensional/construction difference between them.

Is a record cleaner sensible for me?

Having significantly upgraded my digital sources earlier this year, I then decided to upgrade my 30-year-old turntable and 25-year-old cartridge. Accordingly, I recently purchased a Technics SL-1210G turntable and Hana SL cartridge. I then decided to take a cold, hard look at my record...
