    RIP, Mr. Jimmy Cobb.

Just found out Jimmy Cobb died in Saturday. Best known as the drummer on Kind of Blue. Met him at Smoke jazz club 4 years ago. He was very gracious and very energetic that night. RIP Mr. Cobb. Jimmy Cobb (1929-2020) - JazzWax

    From Cadenza Black to A95...

I recently acquired an Ortofon A95 cartridge to replace my Ortofon Cadenza Black. I wasn't in the market for a new cartridge. In fact, the CB is a great sounding cart that I have been very much enjoying. The CB has a clean and open presentation that reveals the music in the grooves with...

Best Packaging among Consumer Audio and Video Companies.

I’ll admit I got this idea from another forum, but it intrigued me enough to ask here: Who has provided the best and worst packaging among all the audio and video companies you have dealt with over the years? For me... Best: SRA- Wooden crates and well-packed inside. Oppo- They could teach...

Maurice White of EW&F has died.

RIP Mr. White, a true musical genius and spiritual inspiration. One of my all-time favorites, with too many greats songs to even start listing. I'm truly saddened.

    Upgrading AES/EBU cable.

Ok, I've been researching AES/EBU cables, looking for something in the less-than-$2K range. I only tried Wireworld AES/EBU cables when I selected my present cable, finding that the Platinum was only a slight improvement over the Gold in my system and not worth the 3X cost. Any recommendations?

Streaming Amarra for Tidal to an Apple TV, 1st Gen.

I've just signed up for the free trial of Tidal and Amarra for Tidal (A4T). Loving it! My initial impressions are that it comes close enough to 16/44 files on my HDDs that it is the first streaming service I'm seriously considering subscribing to. The sound quality is much better than the...

    Cartridge adjustment for 180g/200g records.

This is a somewhat related question to the ongoing mono record/stereo cartridge discussion. If I recall correctly, Fremer wrote that he sets his cartridges for 180g since the majority of the best-sounding LPs are pressed at that weight. Since I've only recently started looking at 180g/200g...

    Mono records with non-mono cartridges.

I've been thinking of getting more into the reissues being done by Analogue Productions, Music Matters, and others. I only have a few monos at the present, but as I explore the various reissues, I know I will inevitably want more mono titles. If I am paying premium prices, I prefer the reissue...

    Stillpoints under Classic 3.

By popular request: VPI Classic 3 Rosewood with stock feet. With Stillpoints Ultra SSs. With Adona 1.25" screw rods. The pic isn't that great, but the rods would not screw all the way in. Again, pics not great, but with 1" stainless steel screw rods the Stillpoints screw flush...

In Heavy Rotation | Strictly Jazz Music | In The Now | Any Music Mediums: LP/ CD/SACD

This isn't "strictly" jazz, as it is really jazz/classical European fusion: A 1993 GRP production that is only available on CD to my knowledge, it features Ray Brown and Phil Woods. A very nice blending of genres and styles, and well-recorded to boot. If you are a fan of both or either...
