This will sound like a PC answer, but truly in between. If pressed, I would say closer to the K1X. In years past, the K-03 versions were quite close to the K-01 versions. With XD, that’s not the case. K-01XD is really a nice step up. HOWEVER,...

Yup, two different approaches for recording. A820 is the real deal for recording which tape machines were designed for back then. Today, the focus is more playback for most. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

If you’re into audio by the pound, yes that would matter. The weight of the A820 comes from it’s stand, sheer size and other structures internally as you have mentioned. The A810 was designed purposely as a portable unit, so areas for size and...

Mike, you’re off. The 810 and 820 have the exact same playback mechanism. It’s all in the recording side the differences. And for playback only, the 1500 Technics is excellent, especially rebuilt by J Corder. From Ki Choi: “both share all...

George, the hiss of tape is there with digital (from tapes) as well, but excessive hiss on R2R playback can come from many sources: bad caps, caps going bad, dirty tape heads, bad tape heads, etc. With a copy of the master tape, you are closer...

The A820 Vs A810 is almost identical, the only difference being in the recording side. If it’s playback only, it’s identical. Most 810’s can be had for $10-15k fully refurbished, wired with external outputs, flux heads, etc. I own two. There...

  1. Hi Ken,
I red your comments in the Vitus power amps. May I ask whether you were able to have an audition? I would be very interested in your opinion comparing them with your Pass amps. I own since almost 10 years a pair of XA60.5's driving together with an Ypsilon Audio PST 100 mkii Tidal Contriva G2 speakers. I love the system but I know the speakers would benefit from more power. And one brand which intrigues me is Vitus. Therefore, your experience would be highly welcome!

Ken, have you started to notice any detractors from the Gigafoil yet. Black is not always good. I have heard this from switch makers

The filters we know are making in first impression kind of dead black background, calm sound picture. But if you listen further, you experience that this is at a cost.
The price is loss of finest micro dynamics, less atmosphere - all these very tiny signals which bring the magic and touch.

If you still think its the bomb I may want to try one. I was already looking to get a linear PS for my router. I will get one with a 19v and 12v rail.

Do you get it from Mike or direct. What about PS. Where are you getting them and at what cost.

    Thanks Rex.
