Randy, I'm missing something. You have two Mac reps, why can't they just help you directly? Why do they need the dealer? It seems you ship Mac your amp, give them the money then they ship you the new amp.

I asked that question as to why he couldn't simply bring the new amp to me, he said that he preferred to run it through one of his dealers. There are a couple problems with simply sending me the amp. First, I am actually using the amplifier that is being traded and therefore do not want to go without any amp while waiting for the exchange, but more importantly I cannot currently move an old amp out of my system and install a new one because of my recently knee replacement and upcoming second knee replacement procedure. I had arranged all of this with the "authorized dealer" who I made the original purchase from. The dealer flacked out (no one actually knows what is going on with him at this point). I asked the McIntosh representative to honor the exact deal that I had originally paid for. More to come.

    Thank you Jeff,

Very much appreciated. One of the owners from the store in Kansas City is supposed to be calling me tomorrow. Until I talk to him, I am not sure exactly how they want to arrange all of this. We will see.

My main issue as far as the system goes, as long as they are going to fulfill the deal that Thomas was originally going to do, is physically moving the MC7100w amp out of the bottom of my rack and installing the new amp in. Wiring, etc., is very straight forward, but getting down on the floor and moving these amplifiers (which are not feather weight) is almost impossible at this moment with my recent and upcoming second surgeries.

Maybe if you could PM me your phone number and I can call you if they cannot physically install it that would be great. It would be cool to get together at some point any way!

I am still extreme worried about what might be going on with Thomas. Everyone says this is not like him, but no one seems to have a clue at this point.

Re: New amplifier on its way!

I had a nice talk with the owner of a Kansas City McIntosh dealership. He is getting the new amp and honoring the deal that I originally had made. He will deliver it to me from Kansas City and pick up the MC7100w.

He said that McIntosh had asked him to take care of this. He also said they were very upset with what went down with the Wichita dealer and are actually compensating him covering his costs to deliver and taking care of him as their representative.

He has ordered the amplifier from McIntosh and will let me know when it has shipped.

Randy - I’m sorry about this whole mess, especially coming as you’re trying to get settled there and going through your health issues. Sounds like McIntosh, with the help of the KC dealer, are going to make it right. We’ll all be glad when you get the new amp in place.

Re: New amplifier on its way!

A quick update. I spoke with the owner of the Kansas City McIntosh dealership yesterday. He said the amplifier has been ordered and should arrive the first part of next week. He is planning on delivering it on Friday if all goes as planned. One of his guys has family in Wichita and is planning on coming in Thursday evening for a visit and then install the amp on Friday morning. So hopefully this time next week the new amplifier will be in place and playing music!!!

So far it is a great amp for me. It works wonderfully in my small room. People can say what they want about McIntosh, but I do not think anyone can question their customer service and how they stand by their products. They value their customers as much as any company I have ever dealt with!

A packaged arrived yesterday. The McIntosh representative sent me a copy of the amazing McIntosh book, "...for the love of music...". I was very surprised and thrilled at the same time. What a wonderful book!

I used to talk smack about mac gear, overrated, over priced, but I'd never listened to the products. Now having a chance to listen and own the stuff I'm thrilled. Look at what most of the high end brands are charging for fancy CNC machined cases packed with chinese electronics and in the current market Mac seems under priced.

I feel the same way, although coming from a different perspective. Growing in Binghamton, after learning about high end audio, I always wanted McIntosh. And yes, I went through a phase where I would say/think that I could get better sound for less money. However, those pieces would be hard to move in aftermarket when I wanted to try the new wiz-bang product. McIntosh, on the other hand sells quickly and for fair prices. Never do you get the asshats busting you on pricing, etc.

Talk about value... I take my C49 as an example. Beautiful clean look, with understated glass panel covering a two chassis unit. Including a solid modeler DAC. Currently I am using my T+A, however when a newer version comes out, I will have the option, and will probably make the move to add that to the pre-amp. I owned their external phono stage and felt it was as good as any I have tried including the really nice mid-level SimAudio (not their great value low model). The SimAudio was great, but the Mc was as good if not better but also included both MM and MC capabilities with separate inputs (two turntables!!!). The phono stage built into the C49 is the same!

The display is customizable in that I can label it how I want (T+A DAC 8, Rega MC, Tech/AT MM, Mc MR85 FM, for example), and every input has customizable settings such as tone controls and input trim, etc. The pre-amp turns on and controls both my tuner and amplifier to the point of turning on and off the meter lights, searching for stations, etc., all from the nicely designed remote control.

Functionality to the extreme while being very under stated. If you want more of a statement, then the C53 or one of their higher end tube models might do the trick. My point being, when considering all that the pre-amp does, how well it is built and how good it sounds, one might actually consider the McIntosh to be quite the bargain.

By the way, KEF and McIntosh are a match made in heaven! I wish I could afford and had space for Blades (II), but since neither is true their baby brothers do a spectacular job with the McIntosh gear!

Re: New amplifier on its way!

Once again McIntosh proves why they are held in such high regards.

The new MC152 is amazing, but I have had one very small issue. The right power meter does not work when the amplifier is first turned on, but then starts working after a short time (from 5-15 minutes). It works fine afterwards.

Talking with their technical support and having a wonderful conversation about my old stomping grounds, going to the same high school as many folks at McIntosh , including having the uncle of the gentleman I work with being one of my classmates.

He just called me and said they are replacing the amplifier. Even though it is a very minor, easy to fix thing they believe a new unit should be absolutely perfect out of the box! He is arranging to get a new amplifier to the Kansas City dealership and for them to once again drive to my home and install it for me. I can continue using the one I have in the meantime.

    Talk about service!

Randy, I am sorry to hear the meter wasn't functioning properly. Thankfully, it sounds like Mac is already on its way to take care of you.

Thank you. The meter seems to work most of the time straight away anymore. But they prefer to replace it anyway. The Kansas City dealer contacted me that the new amp has arrived. He wants to check it and make sure all is 100%. His guy will bring it down and install it next week, even though I will not be of any help (knee surgery tomorrow).

All the speakers I bought and sold before buying the mc611’s and now after hearing what they did for my blades I’m kinda curious how close I was all along.

Re: New amplifier on its way!

Simplex from Kansas City delivered the replacement amplifier today. It works beautifully. They had it ready to deliver two weeks ago but I asked if we could wait a couple of weeks since I just got out of the hospital with my second knee replacement and was not actually ready to deal with getting the new amp. They were fine with this.

Their guy was a couple hours late in delivery (which really was no big deal), but the owner, Robert called and apologized. I told hm it was fine, but he is sending me a $50 Acoustic Sound gift card anyway.

McIntosh and Simplex have proven to be amazing. What customer service!

Looking good, Randy! I'm really happy you were able to get it all sorted out.

I'm not a Mcintosh fan but I appreciate that they are so customer-focused. Great to see a company focused on taking care of customers.

Re: New amplifier on its way!

It has been a while so I thought I would check in and say how amazing the McIntosh gear is. For me they are the system I have always wanted. Sure, some of their higher models would be nice, but my room is small, and these do a wonderful job! Just like I would love Blades (II), but in my room what I have works fantastic!

I am still complete amazed by how McIntosh stepped up to the plate and took care of the issues with the local dealer. They proved what I have always known, the customer is very important to them! Thank you, McIntosh, thank you!!!
