    Snappers!!!

Well I wanted these amps for as long as I can remember. I just could not afford the brand new price tag. And these don't often come up for sale used. I found a dealer in Montana (todd the vinyl junkie)selling off his demo pair. They are an older model but they are upgraded to the newest model. He said he's a manley dealer and has to keep his floor model up to spec. And they were the right price.and come with 2 sets of el34's so I grabbed em up!!
I'm very excited!!! I'm overnighting a check Monday . Hopefully be listening to them in a week or so.
Anyone have any experience with them????

    Re: Snappers!!!

Congrats. Let us know how they sound once you get them.

I looked at those from Todd, they were a great deal.

    Wow...very cool ..congrats !!!

Love dem tubes...what is the tube compliment on the unit ?

Ooops//Never mind..EL34 which means you could go 6L6GC if you desired (to me , nicer sound) since they take slightly less voltage

    Re: Snappers!!!

Yes as soon as I have them setup ill take some pics, shouldn't be too long.
Problem is I built a new stand( from my DIY thread). I built it wide enough to put the 2 granite amps I was going to buy on the bottom shelf. Side by side . The snappers won't fit. Now I have to go find some amp stands.
Or just keep the first stand I built . Which I really don't like all that much. But it's big.
Or maybe ill put the new stand in and put the new amps on some plywood for now.

Thanks everyone I really appreciate it.
Dewey your avatars just keep getting better and better

    Next up speakers !!!

    Re: Snappers!!!

wooohooo!!!!!happy day in my house. snappers finally arrived, todd the vinyl junkie hooked me up with all those extra goodies you see in the pic. 16 extra el34's and the 2 each of the other tubes, fuses, multimeter. im sending off a letter to thank him. i set everything up listened to a couple albums. so far not warmed up and new to the system they sound great!! the other day i switched my granite silver cable to my tonearm and put the aq sky in between pre and amp and it was instantly better. so i left it that way. the addition of the snappers made my soundstage soooo much wider deeper and better, the instrument separation is all there now. and the bass is deeper and more comprehensive. im going to let em warm up then bias the tubes, then ill do some serious listening and put a review up.
im a little happy right now!!!!
as soon as i got the delivered email from fed ex i packed up at work and left and raced home. lol.

    Re: Snappers!!!

Thanks Mike , I had decided to not buy the granite amps and not buy the solid state amp(bryston). And I decided to save up a little more cash and buy new snappers off Jeff . Next day I saw a pair of used for the exact amt I had saved. It was made to be!!!

    Thanks Kev

I was wondering if someone can help me one of the pics above has the multimeter that came with the amps. I'm a moron and I don't know how to use it and I want to put the groove tubes in the amps. And i need that to bias them. I don't even know what setting or what holes to plug the blk and red wires into. It's foreign to me! The biasing part is easy .thanks

    Re: Snappers!!!

    Snappers bias at 300mV DC.....

Its printed behind the tubes on the top chassis.....

Set the volt meter to mV DC and make sure the value is set higher than 300mV then insert the probe (black) into the tiny hole located at the front of the amp, it labeled (ground) then insert the red probe in the tiny hole located towards the back labeled (bias), adjust one at a time until your close to 300mV.....easy!!

A few pointers when biasing.....always have a load on the amp meaning the speakers connected to the amp or you can hurt the trannies......also when you adjust one of the bias points it will effect the other so its a go back and fourth a few times until you get them all pretty close. Don't stress if there not all identical, they can be a mV or two off from each other. Check the bias for a few day's for drift then if they are pretty stable go ahead and re-check in a week just to make sure all is well.

    Re: Snappers!!!

thanks jeff but i specifically pointed out in my above post "im a moron"!!
lmao!! anyway i don have any setting on this meterthat gets me near the number 300. i put it in the holes then spin the dial around . the only setting that is near is the one that im showing in the pic. and thats real low like 160 or less on everything. the tubes hat are in it when shipped are the originals. i got jj's and groove tubes to replac em with . im gonna shut it down and let it cool and put in the groovetubes first see what the meter says. and thanks for your help

excellent.....I would have responded earlier but our power was off for about six hours today, transformer blew on our street and were having a 106 degree day anyway sounds like you doing good
Oh wow Jeff way too hot to not have power. You need a big generator to keep all that equip running. Lol.
I put the dial to the setting 2000m in the dcv section of that meter and the new tubes read all in the 100-200 range. So i used that setting. It also read numbers even lower under the 200k setting. Maybe I should have used that?.
Not sure if I used the right one but once I biased every one it sounded incredible
So I figured I did it right. Ill recheck em later today. Thank you!!

solid state - cdp and Acoustats that's what/ noiseless
André - - - Keep it simple system
    Amp = Chord CPM-2600
    Source = Chord One
Speakers = Acoustat 1+1s highly modified
Life without Acoustat is possible BUT senseless.

    Re: Snappers!!!

Ha ha !!! Awesome Jerome is here!!! Definitely my snapper buddy!! I noticed one of the front manley banner lights is dimmer than the other so I emailed manley. They said they'd send out a new pair of led boards or something. Cost me like $25. Has no effect on anything I just want it right. Lol .
Now that I've been listening for a few days, it's really sounding great in here. When I traded the fosgate to get into the hovland the highs went through the roof. But I was still lacking depth in the soundstage and the voices seemed to drown out the music more than they should have .
Maybe it was the bad resistor in the jas amp I was using. Don't know. But these snappers added everything else and the highs are still off the hook. I got a nice setup now for a pretty modest price.
The second person this week told me that snappers and Joseph pulsars seems like they are made for each other. Hmmmmm . I seem to be a monitor guy anyway, never had much luck with the floorstanders I've bought in the past. Yet I've had great experiences with monitors several times. Hmmmmm. Lol !!!!
    Happy 4th everyone!!!
