Should I get the Magnepan 20.7 ?
I'm in the mood for change again...
Thinking to change my beloved PMC IB2i speakers. I wish I can keep them all but not enough space.
Is my gears will drive them without problem ? How about my room size ? Is it big enough ? ( 28 X14 )
How much space does it require behind the wall ?
Are they produce enough bass ?
Thanks,Paul

Holy cow you are on fire! My hero. I'm done.
Well, I might like to hear a pair of 20.7's. How about the new 3.7i model.

Re: Should I get the Magnepan 20.7 ?
Paul, you have the amps, you have enough room & the DeVores won't foot it with the 20.7's. I know someone that has had both in their house for the last 3 weeks, they packed the DeVores up before the end of trial.
I have 3 friends that have the 20.7's & they have put the time into setting them up & the end result is spectacular. On some recordings the soundstage is massive & a real experience to hear.
The things you can do to make them even better are jumpers for the midrange & treble, fuses & stands. Each has it's own benefits & is worth it to the point of startling. The 20.7's are very revealing of what is upstream, what type of cables, isolation etc., but the more you tweak them the better they get & mine just put a huge smile on my face straight out of the box. It's a win, win. Or as has been quoted before around here, "winner winner, chicken dinner!"
Forgot to add how surprised I was at how much bass these panels have too.

Re: Should I get the Magnepan 20.7 ?
Now that is a hard one! Lets see, in my own space I had the McIntosh 2301 monos, Bryston 28bsst2 monos, MSB S200 amp & SGR Audio 300 monos on the Strads. To my way of hearing the amps are mentioned in the order of warmer to neutral. The Strads lean towards a warmer voiced enclosure & are therefore not as revealing to what is upstream as much as the 20.7's are, as they have their own sound, in as such!
The Maggies are a neutral speaker, which a lot of people don't realise, but, they are very easily swayed with jumpers, cables, amps, isolation etc. The voicing of a certain amplifier/preamp is very evident with the 20.7's as opposed to the Strads where the signature would not be so prominent as of that warmer mid range for the voicing/tuning of them when made.
If tomorrow I was given all my money back & was told to choose it again, knowing what I know now & the sound I can get from both, I'd end up having what I have now as I know the sound that I want & I know how to get it/tune them with components & cable to achieve it. I haven't finished with the fit-out yet & will achieve an absolutely coherent, balanced, musical system that is dynamic, not fatiguing, voiced accurately that has a lovely golden aura of aural pleasure about it.....tsk tsk, you'll have to wait & see.

Should I get the Magnepan 20.7 ?
Kev. Trust me. I like to have them but I'm almost certain will try the Devore for this time and try the 20.7 some time later ( with the amounts of speakers I went through last year it could be very soon.lol )
I'm very familiar with the Maggie's ( owned 1.7,3.7 and had a 20.7 for very short period ( 20 days ) however my audio room was way to small for the panels to breath so hope I get better experience with my new audio room . I'm so glad that you are enjoying your 20.7. Right on~ !Paul
